I don't know which is more sad: spending ages crafting a character model in a first person game like Skyrim, or you're immediately wearing a helmet that obscures those finely crafted facial features; or getting titillated over a video game that has an uncensored topless bike rider whose breasts you can almost never see because the game has a behind-the-back camera.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I know which one of those is the most sad.

I bought Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines in some Steam sale of years past and never played it, but re-installed it when they announced the sequel. Still haven't played it, and it get uninstalled in the great hard drive cleanse on Red Dead Redemption 2 release day. Hearing Danny speak so highly of playing it in 2019 is maybe enough encouragement to get me to re-re-install it.

This was my first time seeing Mordhau, and it reminds me a lot of Mount & Blade: Warband's multiplayer. So now I really want M&B2 to actually come out at some point even more than I already did.

And just to echo what everyone was saying, I haven't watched a lot of GBWest content recently but Mary really adds a lot to the dynamic of the group. I'd be delighted if it could be a more regular thing.

I'm not going to complain about people getting grumpy at this video, even though I really want to. I understand and empathise with people who dislike certain content, and I'm guilty of that myself - I thought Winter Games was super fun in theory and hideous in execution. Not every piece of content on the site is going to be to everyone's liking, and that's okay.

So I'll just try and be positive: I really enjoyed watching this. I was surprised by how much they misremembered, or how they seemed to think it was a totally different time. But I got a big kick out of seeing the old crew and the old days of E3, and I low-key love the interactions between the young crew, so much so that I almost wish Abby was at GBWest (I'd miss her chemistry with Vinny though).

Also, my memory of games coverage from this period (I was 15 in 2004) is that GameSpot was one of the sites that didn't lean into the whole booth babes thing. Some sites definitely did, and posted lists ranking female characters based on looks, and covered games like Rumble Roses because of sex appeal not because the game quality merited the coverage. But GS never really partook in that. I feel like I remember Rich and Jeff talking on the HotSpot back in the day about how stupid they thought it all was, because they saw it as a hollow marketing technique which is exactly what it was. I also feel that Greg's views on the topic represent the view of most of the people on staff. There were a lot of bros covering "bro games" in 2004, even though the height of bro gaming was yet to come (Call of Duty 4 in 2007), but that's not what GS was about.

This game is really fun. Bought it on a whim having not really played a baseball game before, and have been having and grand old time with it.

The ego is the difficulty, and it's also the score multiplier. You can set it to be one value or set it with four variables, changing the difficulty for pitching, hitting, fielding, and base running individually. Your players will do most of the defence for you on lower ego levels if you let them, but at higher levels you have to take control and run down a pop-up to the outfield yourself, because the AI doesn't do as much for you. Higher pitching ego makes it harder to locate pitches, hitting ego I think increases velocity on opposing pitches, and makes the power meter harder to time.

I knew this was coming, but I still feel a little sad. My tastes are so different to GB now, I didn't play and enjoy a single one of their top ten games, (I do now own a copy of Neir and I intend to play it) and the game I would champion, as GOTY - Horizon: Zero Dawn - doesn't seem like it stood a chance.

Like, y'all like what you like, and that's cool, and I like the site because of the personalities, but for all the narrative about 2017 being one of the all-time great years in video game history, up there with 1998, and then this is your list, I just feel like I'm totally missing something. I mean, Tekken 7? In 2017? I'm passed caring about people's love of PUBG, but the video is getting absolutely pilloried in the YT comments because of it (also people are mad salty about Abby, which, ugh).

There is no way I'm listening to them deliberate this for five freaking hours if this was their outcome.

I don't think Jinder is quite used to being a top guy and having people ask him weird questions like this at events - easily the least natural and comfortable out of all of them, with Woods obviously being the most natural.

Seeing Bayley just makes me sad these days.
