Hey! I'm Chad Livingston and I am working toward a major in Film Studies and minor in Anthropology at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. My studies are in auteur theory and adapting the theory and principals in video games and I also have a strong passion for 80s and 90s indie film. I'm expected to graduate in the fall of 2016, really hoping this is my final GOTY list as an undergrad!

Alright duders! Before I dive in I just want to mention that I would love to have gotten into Fallout 4, Mario Maker, and Destiny: The Taken King but alas I have not had the time as I had to dive into a new house and working my ass off toward finishing school. So those are definitely things I want to jump into as soon as my break starts. I'm also procrastinating my ass off on a final paper and I have work tonight so I'll be keeping these short and sweet.

(Gotta step away a while but I'll share more of my thoughts about the games on this list after I get home from work tonight)

List items

  • I am a HUGE Blizzard fanboy without a doubt and even have my allegiance to the Horde tattooed on my arm. Despite having gotten in during the technical alpha I didn't REALLY get into it until a couple phases into the beta last year. I really enjoyed seeing this game evolve since then and its one of my favorite competitive games to check into while backlogged with podcasts. I'm still not a huge fan of DOTAs but the fun factor and casual style of this game won me over. Also if you were to ask me in juvenile millennial jargon, yes, Sylvanas is "bae."

  • I was feeling the itch for a new Guitar Hero and Rock Band about a year ago so I was very happy when these got announced. Having made the jump from XBox 360 to PS4 I knew I wouldn't have my old Rock Band music library anytime soon so Guitar Hero Live became the best option for me. The new button layout gave me a new challenge of mastering the controller and retraining my hand to hit the the buttons in a new way has been an interesting experience. While I only enjoyed about 20% of the songs on the disc, the online library has been great to scratch my punk and metal itch and having only an hour of metal every once in a while in GHTV has helped me pace myself and limited my game time so I can get back to homework or chores.

  • Ever since moving into my house I have plenty of room to have my friends over for parties. This is by far the best game since Mario Kart and Mario Party to drink a couple beers to while hanging out with friends. Sometimes I wish these college days would last forever because of games like this.

  • I surprised even myself when this made the list. I take the bus quite a bit living in the city and there was plenty of downtime in between classes. So what started as a simple little distraction evolved into much more. Nothing got more satisfying than getting my level 50 Evolved Randy Orton to legend rank 2 and throwing him in a team with Johnny Cage and Enlightened Big Show. I really hope NetherRealm Studios takes the next step with the WWE license after Mortal Kombat X and makes this into a full console fighting game in the style of Injustice: Gods Among Us.

  • I really enjoyed the... story... And boobs.

Kidding aside this was a really fun puzzle game with awesome RPG mechanics mixed in. Plus ever since my love affair with Persona 3 and 4 I've become a sucker for the dating sim elements. So I legitimately enjoyed this game for its mechanics and personality. Yes, there are boobs.
