I wish I had time to keep a video game blog, but being married with a kid seriously cuts into my personal time, so I think I'd rather use it playing the games instead of writing about them.
"Perhaps they should have it set where we could tag some parts of an article as spoilers and it'd hide those for non-members to highlight while members could choose to have them always uncensored if they pleased. "
Yeah, I was thinking about that. I've used forums that had a <spoiler> tag </spoiler>, that would hide any text between the tags until the user clicks on it.
I've also considered putting the opening plot near the top with the overview, and then putting the complete plot in a noted section further down in the article.
In writing articles for a few games, I've struggled with this question: how much of the plot should I leak into the article. There are two sides that I see: 1.) Reveal it all. This is, in fact, a wiki site. It's all about getting all the crazy minutia details and information about these games as possible. We are able to go into detail about every character, object, and location in every game we can think of. Why not include the story?
2.) Hold back. People want to read about the games; they may not want the entire story ruined for them. In many games, much of the enjoyment is had by actually experiencing the story firsthand. This is not to discount the other aspects of the game (gameplay, graphics, sound, etc.), but being able to feel the emotion can be huge, and I'd hate to ruin it for someone.
So far, I've erred on the side of holding back, but I'm wondering what the ideal for this site should be.
"As someone who wrote out a lengthy entry blurb for Link's Awakening DX, I say "NOOOOO! DON'T DO IT!" As a reasonable human being, I'd ask "Has the debate about remakes/re-releases been settled yet? Essentially, DX is the same as its predecessor. The key differences are new platform, more powerful platform, Game Boy printer support(remember that thing? God, that was stupid....in a good way) and the color dungeon. Are those differences, at the moment , trivial enough that the two pages should be combined?" "
While I do think that the pages should be joined, I do understand your plea. I would hate for any of my submissions to disappear into the void. I think the best solution would be a sort of compromise. Someone (a mod or Bomb-staff, preferably) should look at the two blurbs and submissions and combine them in a way that preserves the work of all parties involved.
My bad, I didn't look very far back in the requests before I submitted my own. I agree with what you've said in the other discussions. If the core of the game is the same between two games, they should be merged. Re-releases can add significant, ground-breaking content and concepts, but they're still the same in principle. Any of the additional content can be added as a section within the game description.
I have pending pages for the following: Characters: Domino Hurley, Eva, Olivia Ofrenda, Celso Flores, Lupe, Nick Virago, Maximino, Membrillo, and Chief Bogen Places: El Marrow, Rubacava, and Petrified Forest Game Page: I listed the soundtrack and added all the track names. I've submitted friends and enemies of any available characters. I've added the scythe as a related object. People: I added Bret Mogilefsky (creator of GrimE engine and Lead Programmer) as a page and will list him as a person related to the game if/when it gets accepted.
