A masterpiece of epic proportions, Tim Schaefer outdid himself with this one. Amazing narrative, fun gameplay, excellent voice acting, a killer soundtrack, and, most importantly, a unique, immersive world made this title stand out from the rest. Sure, the RTS gameplay can be a little awkward at first, but once you start playing it more like an action game and less like an RTS it becomes a blast.
The most atmospheric game of 2009 hands down, Cryostasis had me tense all the way through. Nearly a perfect game, the only thing that stopped Cryostasis from reaching my #1 spot was the technical flaws. Occasional crashes and an inconsistent frame rate water down what could otherwise be a perfect game.
While Cryostasis is easily my FPS of the year, Killzone 2 is holding down the multiplayer front. Even with its explosive single player campaign, the focus of this game is quite obviously the multiplayer. With tight map design and excellent balance, its a game that I keep coming back to.
