Not so well-known games to look for in (the rest of) 2011

If you are a fairly well-informed gamer, you've probably already heard of most of the games on this list. However, even the most observant news-reader may still have a few promising games slip under his radar, so read on! This is by no means a complete list, as there is bound to be plenty more well-hidden secrets out there.

List items

  • Could this be the deep and complex zombie-game fans have been yearning for in years? It SEEMS to be more focused on scavenging and surviving, rather than being just a gory, limb-hacking kill-fest. At least there will be something to lean on should Dead Island fail miserably.

    Release: TBA (maybe 2012)

  • Blending real-time strategy and first-person shooter into one slimy gruel has never caught on, if ever truly attempted, but fear no more. From the one trailer that has been released, Nuclear Dawn looks like it could go terribly wrong with a sublimely bland setting, but if the hybrid genre works seamlessly it could be a hit.

    Release: September

  • The first Airline Tycoon was a delightful, if shallow, experience. Of the many budget tycoon games that are released, Airline Tycoon actually managed to be exciting through longer periods of time, as you spent your time setting routes for your planes, slowly expanding your operations, and hopefully annoy and destroy your opponent.

    Release: October

  • A sandbox game set in the 60s featuring guns and Harleys? I'm in! There hasn't been released much info on the game, other than a trailer accompanied by "Born to be Wild" (what else?), and whether the game will actually be released is uncertain.

    Release: TBA

  • Another zombie game, based on the graphic novel series and AMC TV-series, The Walking Dead, is adventure game makers/revivers Telltale's first step into a more serious matter, and possibly outside the adventure genre. The TV-show was a massive critical success, but how will the universe and story translate into a video game? We'll have to wait a while to find out.

    Release: Q4 2011
