According to a scan from a Japanese magazine Phoenix Wright didn't quite make the cut for the game.  Not sure if I would have preferred him over Frank West but his inclusion would have been nice.

The only way co-op could really work and feel right was if the two characters were equals.  In terms of what Batman does no one is his equal, not even his own students.  The only character I could see working wouldn't fit into the universe Rocksteady has built.  In DC Comics there is an alternate universe where everything is the same except everyone's genders are reversed.  This Batwoman has identical DNA to Bruce and the exact same skill set.  This is the only character I feel would be acceptable, yet it wouldn't fit with the context of the game.

Superman.  Most heroes watch over a city while Superman takes care of the world.  He exemplifies what it means to be a superhero, the model of what a hero should be.  Most people don't like him because he doesn't have many flaws, which doesn't make sense to me.  Other heroes start being heroes to make up for their flaws, to avenge the wrongs that have happened to them.  By being a hero they are trying to get rid of their flaws and become a better person.  Most people like other comic book characters because they want to read about this journey to perfection, one that readers apparently don't want to see the end of.  Superman is the hero at the end of the journey yet so many people don't like him for it.  Only if the character is striving towards this goal are they ok.
