My impression of Inside 0

I’m not very big on video game news, and when I am, I’m not looking at what various indie studios are doing. So I didn’t know about the existence of INSIDE until I saw it for sale on steam yesterday. But after I saw a single screenshot and read that it was from the studio that made LIMBO, that was all I needed to feel completely confident about dropping 20 bucks and buying it right away. And keep in mind, I’m one to be extremely timid about spending 8 dollars on a game! ...

Uncharted 4: Warm Blanket 0

Uncharted is always an exciting adventure. There’s nothing like playing through an Uncharted game for the first time. And there was no doubt in my mind that the fourth in the series would not disappoint. I chose not to watch any gameplay footage before my time with it so that the locations would take me completely by surprise. With Uncharted, it’s all about the locations. Sure the combat is improved a little with each installment and the characters receive their dashes of depth alon...

Mirror's Edge Catalyst Review 0

Do you ever hear new material from one of your favorite bands that just makes you want to listen to that album of theirs that you already know you love? That’s how Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was for me. Mirror’s Edge (PS3) is one of my top ten favorite games. It was incredibly unique, awesomely scored, and visually unforgettable. So of course my fandom made me excited for the sequel. But my play of Catalyst just ended up reminding me of my love for the original and made me want to...

Great Expectations: MGSV 0

PrefaceI spent three weeks with this game and have now completed the main story arc (as well as its “epilogue” arc, as some are describing it), and this review is intended as a dialogue to speak my mind about every aspect of the game post-completion. There is SO MUCH I want to talk about. I encourage you to turn away now if you don’t want any plot points revealed, because I will touch on a lot of things that could be considered spoilable. Those of you that have completed the ga...

Should have used the rubber 0

Don’t know the best place to begin, so I’ll just start into it. Far Cry 3 is a shooter… specifically a good feeling shooter. The movement and combat feels natural – meaning my character pretty much does what I have in mind when I press the buttons that will presumably make him do it. The weapon sounds are nice, and the enemy death animations are nice… and all that. The shooting aspects are well-rounded. But there’s far more than shooting in this game. And in nearly every other category, it falls...

Not the Citizen Kane of games, but still a great game 0

Amid all the perfect scores, I can't help but feel like the gaming industry, as well as the gamers, have failed themselves by calling this such a success. When we give something a perfect score, what is that really saying? It really depends on your point of view. Does it mean it's something that couldn't possibly be improved upon? Or does it mean it was perfect enough? Or is it just a gut feeling? Whatever your reasons, I know I certainly don't want to just rest in the wading pool calling The L...

These aren't movies 0

These aren't movies. This game doesn't feature anything that can rightfully be called a movie. It's such an exciting premise, especially for a film lover like myself, the idea that I could run a sim production company and cast, write, direct, and produce my own sim movies. But they aren't movies. Sometimes one can get caught up in the gameplay of The Movies so much that the completely representational and theoretical manor in which these "movies" turn out can actually seem like less of a crime o...

Re Five: my thoughts 0

I just finished Resident Evil: 5 for the… 5th? maybe 6th? time. Why do I keep playing this game so much? I have no idea. It all started when my older brother rented it from blockbuster in 2009. He forgot to return it for a long time, thus was charged with the full price of the game. From that point, we decided to make the best of it, and play the mercenary modes, unlock the unlockables, play on harder difficulties, do the Extra downloadable missions, and so on. In between our cooperative playing...
