"Aren't you paying them already?"

"Yes."

Actually:

Last June, much of the Skullgirls development team was laid off. This had nothing to do with the game or its sales; Skullgirls’ financial support was simply cut off as a result of a costly legal battle that was strangling our publisher, Autumn Games. These ongoing legal difficulties kept Autumn from being able to continue its support for the game. We always had big plans for Skullgirls, and hoped to keep growing the game and its community with new characters and game updates, but without funding, these plans unfortunately had to wait.

While we’ve been able to continue working on the patch and have recently made progress on the PC version with Autumn’s help, neither of these has been able to pay our extremely talented and dedicated art staff. So, in many ways, this campaign is also a last-ditch effort to keep the Skullgirls team together, working on the game we love so.

Huh, so getting laid off results in not getting paid.

Hey...guys...guys...isn't Skullgirls a little sexist? Fight the patriarchy.

It kind of bugs me when Skullgirls is called sexist because of its appearance. From what I know of the staff, the lead animator, voice director, and composer are all women. The voice cast is made up of mostly women, some who were inexperienced and are now getting more roles after being cast in a decently known video game. And the story is largely driven by the female characters.

Also a tumblr post from Erin Fitzgerald, one of the voice actresses. Her response to Skullgirls being called sexist:

@hunkulese:They talk quite a bit. And Squigly is a special case because her hair parasite, Leviathan also talks. So you're paying two new people plus all the new unique intro/win quotes and tag-ins from the other fighters.

No one is answering my questions. Why purchasing a product promise? considering you can purchase a similar existing product of similar characteristics? lets be real, there is no lack of good videogames, good movies, good tv shows, good books etc.. Why not make a rational use of your money and invest it on something that is neither a dream(in the best of cases) or a very manipulative sales pitch.

I have a group of friends who enjoy Skullgirls, and the online lobbies that are being patched onto all versions once the PC version hits will make it easier to play with that group. We don't all own Street Fighter, we don't all own Marvel, but we all own Skullgirls. This group of friends not only plays, some of them cosplay, some do fanart, etc, so they're pretty invested in more than just the features that you can find in other games. So I funded this project so that I can enjoy the game with them even more.

Loved the article! I saw some comments about the project earlier from someone who believes that $150,000 should be able to fund a whole Skullgirls sequel. Now THAT'S ridiculous.

Jeff

Special Move: Brutal axe kick as if the opponent were a crate.

Fatality: Spends some alone time with the opponent Gal Gun style while the creeper cam shows Jeff's reactions on the corner of the screen. The KO screen shows up over a shot of Jeff crying on the couch.
