@neoshodan: Yep that's the exact issues that everyone with gen 1 and gen 2 Chromecasts are having. I believe only Chromecast Ultra and the Roku Premiere+ (and above) will play GB videos properly post 1080/60 switch. If you're using the GB Video Buddy app to cast to your Chromecast, turn the quality down to "Low" and then start the video. That's what worked for me and others. It's not great quality but it works without issue.
I wanted to confirm that the GB app works perfectly on my new Roku Permiere+
I just installed the Roku Premiere+ and everything works beautifully! In case it matters, I am connected via ethernet instead of wifi.
I replaced my Roku 3 which had the audio/video desync issues. I hope that for people that have the Rokus that can handle the 1080p/60fps quality, the app will detect that and not downgrade it to the 720p quality which is the quick fix that the devs will implement soon from last I heard.
I have been having the same issues as other people with the recent videos on my Chromecast 2 when using the Video Buddy or Luchadeer apps.
HD quality - Constant video and audio stuttering
High quality - Some video stuttering / moderate audio stuttering
Low quality - no issues
I tried 2G and 5G Wifi and got the same exact results. I then bought the Chromecast 2 ethernet adapter from Google and still got the exact same issues.
The issue seems to be with the Chromecast 2 and older devices not being able to keep up with 1080p/60. Someone in an earlier post mentioned that they bought a Chromecast Ultra and that the issues were gone. This pretty much confirms that the issue is the hardware not being able to keep up, although it doesn't quite make sense considering that I can watch Youtube videos at 1080p/60 with no issues.
Could the problem be that the codec used by GB doesn't work as effienctly on Chromecast? I previously used my Roku 3 and had the video audio desync also related to the bump up to 1080p/60. Is GB using a bitrate that is too high compared to other services? Either way, this has to affect 90% of people who use Roku or Chromecast devices to watch their GB content. Very few people have the latest and greatest Roku Ultra or Chromecast Ultra. My point being that GB has to find a solution because most people will most likely not buy a new device just to stream GB content.
Roku 3 user having the same video/audio sync issues mentioned above. This has been happening on all GBEAST videos since "This Is The Run - Part 9". I believe this same issue happened for GBEAST videos 4 months ago.
I have an issue with the Giant Bomb app on my Roku 3. The problem occurs with latest two videos from GB West; "Quick Look: Hitman: Episode 5: Colorado" and "Unfinished: Dishonored 2 09/29/2016".
The video and audio desync. The video varies between a choppy and normal framerate while the audio plays normally. This causes the audio and video get more and more desynced over time.
Anyone else have this issue? The GB East videos have no problem. Is there some new encoding method being used on GB West that would cause this?
Thanks.
Edit: It looks like the newest GB West video; "Quick Look: Lichtspeer" works properly. I'll post again if the issue comes appears in later videos.
