Bombermechs definitely take some time to get used to, but I've you get the hang of them you have a lot of options.
One of the biggest things with using the walking bombs is that you can use them with the Swap Mech to switch with any enemy or ally (and still move the bomb around around if you didn't use its move action previously).
@wollywoo: The Crash games are really not collectathons, and the comparison to Mario back in the PS1 days was really just that they were both the 3D mascots.
There was an old review of the PS1 Crash games where they pointed out that the Crash games are basically just 3D versions of Donkey Kong Country and I think that's the most apt comparison you can make. The games are essentially on rails, 100 fruit give you an extra life, the collectibles are mostly optional, etc. Even the world map of the original Crash is ripped straight out of the original DKC with you running around a map of the island.
Crash 2 was my favorite but I haven't really looked into 4 yet. Mostly for money reasons, but it looks like there's a bunch of gimmicky things in the levels. OP says otherwise, though, so maybe I'll check it out sooner than I planned.
@csl316: Wow, Crash 2 and Sonic 2 are two of my favorite games growing up that I feel like are usually overlooked in these types of lists. Although I absolutely hate (the THREE??) Metropolis Zones.
Echoing Into the Breach, Burnout Paradise, and Mario Odyssey as deserving of this list.
I would also say either Mario Kart 64, DS, or 8 as being perfect entries in the series. Also, I haven't played it in a while, but I would maybe include Towerfall- the last time we played there was a room full of people of all ages and gaming experience playing it for hours.
I forgot what I needed to do to craft and was stuff at the starting base because I couldn't get a handle on what to do next. I could have played through the tutorial again, but what should have been a chill zone out game got SO frustrating, just trying to fight the controls and menus.
This just happened with me with Secret of Mana. I got the trilogy pack on Switch and started up Secret after hearing about it for years as being a little janky but still a classic.
The whole time playing it, it just felt like a really not great Link to the Past clone. Your weapons miss with no explanation or tell as to why. There's no invincible window after you get hit, so enemies will lock you in a corner and whittle down your health. The music/world/story all seems fine, but not really anything to write home about. Granted, I'm only a few hours in (I just got the third party member) but the actual gameplay was so frustrating I got tired of playing really quickly.
So after all that I decided to boot up Link to the Past, and it's great! I first played it on the GBA when I was a teenager, but it really holds up in my opinion. Compared to Secret of Mana it just feels so much more polished.
