That Raph Koster discussion string is something else; Robin (Robert?) Yang seems to seriously use 'oppression' in describing opinions contrary to her own. Raph's letter is also terribly masturbatory; he presumes to try and formalize aspects of game design that people can barely put into words. It comes down to 'mechanics' are important, which you'd think would be a truism, except Yang actually goes out of her way to disagree with it. Luckily this sort of indie developer is being crowded out by the sort that actually makes games people want to play.

Frankly, the Abbott article is terrible. It's an opinion piece masquerading as some sort of industry insight. If there really is genre fatigue, point it out. And how exactly is targeting the CoD audience going for a 'Narrow target audience'? As compared to what, Angry Birds?

In the end it comes out to a 'I don't like the MP3 gameplay' anecdote, and then behaving as if his opinion is widely held.

People still are hung up on Aerith dying in FF7. There's no contest. Kessler's argument was mostly nonsense; if were to argue that FF7's success changed the series forever, that'd work.

Could someone change the Skullgirls image to this: http://www.giantbomb.com/skullgirls/61-34082/all-images/52-526213/5591051297_fe45a2d864_b/51-1791130/

The logo we're using is the old one. The image is from Skullgirls' wiki, and I was pointed there by Reverge's Peter, who asked me to change the logo from the old to the new. If necessary I can post screencaps of the NeoGAF PM he sent me.

Hope Whiskey Media's servers can handle all the web-traffic from NewYorker readers coming in to check the site.
