Favourite games

My top ten favourite games. I decided to only include one game per franchise, which is why the original 'Portal' is left off the list. I am going to continuously update this list in the event that it changes. I'm currently playing through 'The Last of Us', which I think has potential to get onto the list.

List items

  • The original Mass Effect aimed high, but did not quite meet its ambition. Mass Effect 2 did. The sequel featured a much better plot and introduced a host of new characters. Decisions made in the first game carried over and made the game world feel really realistic. I grew attached to the Normandy's crew and never wanted to leave them. Everything about Mass Effect 2 was brilliant.

  • 'Super Mario Galaxy' showcases everything that is good about Nintendo and about the Wii. The game is absolutely gorgeous and has an endless amount of charm. 'Gslaxy' utilised the Wii's motion controls without them ever feeling tacked-on. The gameplay is innovative and I just love everything about this game. 'Super Mario Galaxy' is a work of art.

  • This was the peak of the Assassin's Creed series. The game had its problems, but ACII fixed almost all of them. It introduced a beautiful new setting and a storyline that was actually interesting. The characters introduced were memorable, especially the protagonist - Ezio Auditore Da Firenze. Ezio's charm and charisma, along with his tragic backstory, makes him a far better character than either Altair or Connor Kenway. Assassin's Creed II took the series to a new level. Unfortunately, I feel each game since has brought the series back a step. My hopes are not high for the next installment.

  • Being a big fan of Rockstar Games, I was foaming at the mouth by the time LA Noire finally launched in 2011 - five years after it was originally announced. While LA Noire has its detractors, I really admire how Team Bondi pushed the boat out graphically with this game. Los Angeles was brilliantly brought to life using the MotionScan tech. LA Noires gameplay had its detractors, although I really liked it. I felt like I was Cole Phelps, although one problem I had with the game was that the open world felt slightly dead. While the plot spun out of control towards the end, LA Noire is still one of my favourite games.

  • A very underrated game. My mum actually wouldn't let me get this game when it originally came out on the PS2, so I felt like I was breaking the rules when I bought the Scholarship edition. 'Bully' is a very underrated, charming game with a hilarious script. While it's janky and has frame-rate issues, 'Bully' is still a blast to play through. Where's that sequel Rockstar?!

  • Ah, Crash Bash. While some may think of it as the poor party game cousin of Naughty Dog's masterful trilogy, I hold it in very high regard. This was actually my first video game. I got it for Christmas one year along with my PS1 and two other games - FIFA World Cup 2002 and Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chasse. 'Crash Bash' was, and still is, a brilliant game to play with friends. It is packed full of wacky mini games and has a great soundtrack. My friends and I still regularly get a game of this going.

  • When I think of 'World at War', I nostalgically remember the awesomeness of Sgt. Reznov and releasing the dogs. When I was 13 years old this was the coolest game I had ever played. I actually played this game on the Wii, so I missed out on a lot of things that people normally associate with this game. Namely great graphics, splitscreen multiplayer and Nazi Zombies. Nevertheless I really enjoyed 'World at War', which remains the only Call of Duty game I have ever really liked.
