Yeah I don't really see any point in doing an account suicide, although some of them were really funny. I just stopped posting. Everybody I want to talk to has moved off the site anyways.

But from my own point of view as someone who posted there but barely paid attention to what the mod staff did, even I'd seen the occasional account suicide with screencaps of incriminating things he's posted in the past. But since it never truly blew up, I attributed those posts to the fact that GAF and its mods were constantly being targeted by alt-right/gamergate/various types of internet sludge. Anyone can mock up a fake forum post, and every time one would show up it'd be quickly removed and nobody would say anything. But when his entire mod staff up and quits? Can't sweep that under the rug.

I wasn't expecting anyone to get much out of Malka but I guess I shouldn't underestimate Patrick. Wow.

I've been in various GAF discords since this went down and if he thinks the community will stick around just because the site goes back up, he's pretty delusional.

Well, there's WoW obviously. In terms of just normal retail games I think I spent 100 bucks on Xenogears at one point, but that was partly due to the canadian dollar being crap at the time.

I think I went about 200 bucks deep on Marvel Heroes, but I played that for 700+ hours so whatever. Maybe 150 on Planetside 2, I literally paid to win and was running tons of boosters during my winter break around when it launched. Felt good.

I've fallen down the gacha hole this year and let me tell you, it's something else. I think Fire Emblem Heroes has gotten me for about $250 so far. The perceived rarity of certain good units twists your brain to think that they'd totally be worth blowing $80 on if you managed to get them. If. And FEH is very generous by gacha standards.

Fate/Grand Order is a different kind of hell entirely. I've heard of people going thousands deep on that with nothing to show for it.

@khansolo: A lot of GAF-adjacent discords were being raided last night. So I'd imagine they are locking everything down still.

Anyways, GAF had, and still has, some of the best communities I've ever played online with - Monster Hunter, FF14, Warframe, Destiny, so on so forth. And I've been everywhere. I will not be leaving those behind no matter what happens with the site itself.

I think I was super scared of Berzerk on the Atari.

Oldest specific memory was Boos in SMB3. Thank god for the game genie and hammer suit letting me kill them.

Had this happen to me yesterday when trying to download Steal My Sunshine. I was able to get it downloaded by resuming over and over, but yeah.

My last post on the GB forums was in the Dark Souls 1 announcement thread...but yeah, for now looks like everyone has been flocking to Discord.
