Seeing as you've played both Infamous and Prototype, which one, in your opinion, was better? And are they actually pretty similar, as I've heard so many times?

My vote definately goes to Prototype. But let me explain.

Both are considered very similar because they're both about freerunning a lot, so the gameplay is kinda similar.

From both, inFamous is made to be more "mainstream" than Prototype.

Prototype lacks a few things and could do better with narration or graphics for example. InFamous is a more polished game than Prototype, I'd say.

But to me, Prototype has more memorable characters, Alex Mercer and Elizabeth Greene respectively, and more charm, a more intriguing plot and the combat is more fluent. Also Prototype's plot and atmosphere are a lot darker, and more violent.

While I forgot a lot about my playtime from Infamous, the time I spent with Prototype is well-treasured :)

In the end it's a matter of taste, really.

Gotcha. I really enjoyed Prototype but had never played Infamous (no PS3) so I had always wondered if the rumors were true. I think you're the first person I've heard say they liked Prototype better, honestly O.o

Hehe, yeah, I have an odd taste I guess ^^

When it comes to stories, whether it be books, movies or games, it's all about the characters for me. And Cole McGrath is pretty pale compared to Alex Mercer, in my opinion. I love that one mission in Prototype where you chase after Taggart, and Alex curses the hell out of him :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kbIlycGF-E

I remember that mission! I felt like such a badass, like "IMMA MURDER YOU" x1000!

I was playing Prototype today :) I think I love randomly running around blowing up tanks n choppers more than I liked the campaign missions. I'm excited for the second one, just wish you got to play as Mercer again :/

That's the reason I'm not excited about the sequel. Seriously, playing as a new character with Mercer as the enemy? :|

I love Mercer, there's no way I'd kill him >:-(

Quite a fun time with both infamous & prototype, though I think I had more fun with prototype as the hunting for people for the story beats or just sneaking into a base & slowly killing off people one at a time (either absorbing them or pointing them out as Alex to watch the base just turn on them). Curious now about the sequel to see if it adds more than infamous 2 did to it's game.

No Dark Souls?

YOU'RE DEAD TO ME! D:

In all seriousness it is a great game in a lot of respects, in fact I can say without hesitation that it is one of the most important games this generation. The last time I said that was around 1999-2000. That's how much I'm willing to put my money (which isn't a lot) on...problem is, it's such a dividing game that only a tiny proportion will actually play it let alone finish it...what a damn paradox that is.

Isn't Dark Souls the sequel to Demon's Souls? I heard they're pretty hard, and I'm just a casual gamer and easily upset over a loss, so I guess those games aren't for me... ^^;

*sigh* "It's not for me." Sounds so much like a rejection from a girl (or guy!) when people utter that phrase but it's totally understandable as well given the...challenge involved. Which is a shame really since the game's philosophy is really interesting. At the risk of sounding like a ponce, there's a lot heart to it and there aren't many games like that these days.

Except not many people will see it and that makes me cry lamentations to my koi fish. Away I go to the back garden once again...

Interesting taste in games! Have you tried Valkyria Chronicles 2 or the new Armored Core game yet?

Looking at these games, I bet you would have the exact same taste as PixelPrinny. She owns just about everyone one of these games too haha.

No, I haven't. I'm not too interested in those two to be honest ^^; Although I thought about getting AC V, because I like the customizations you can do. But that's about it :D

A casual gamer who owns at least 86 PS3/Vita games? Most of which are not casual at all.

Anyway, I see you preferred Prototype to inFamous (weirdo!), but have you tried inFamous 2? I think it has more memorable characters than the first, which is one of your complaints, and it addresses one of mine which is that you're not so underpowered at the beginning. And if you're into dark and violent, you should play through to the evil ending -- I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in GB's best endings last year.

@KamasamaK: Hehe, I know I'm a weirdo. One reason I preferred Prototype over InFamous is purely subjective though: I'm a woman who is into enigmatic guys with a dark personality, like Alex Mercer. And I'm not into violent games, not at all. I skipped most horror games like F.E.A.R or Darkness and whatnot, because I wasn't that interested in them.

The reason I bought Prototype was, because I like freerunning/acrobatic games like Assassins Creed or Prince of Persia, and I like open-world games with RPG elements like collecting points or experience to upgrade skills or gear. All that was featured in Prototype plus a hot sociopath protagonist. Totally my game.

@KamasamaK: Oh, and no, I haven't tried InFamous 2 yet. It's on my (long) list of games to get, but not with a high priority. I have to play through the evil part of the first one still...

@Morrow: Sounds like evil Cole would be your preference, then. Why'd you play through as good first?

And I didn't mean to imply you were into violence for the sake of it being violent. I just saw that was one of the points you mentioned about Prototype. Most of the games on your list do involve violence of some type, anyway. Assassin's Creed has plenty. I understand that's not the draw to you. I also see no pure first-person shooters on there, which is further evidence of that.

And believe me, I know about having a backlog. Mine goes for years...

@Morrow: Fair enough. As long as I could at least get you to question that decision, I guess that's good enough. It's helpful to be introspective every so often.

Yay, someone else bought Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll. I thought I was the only person to play that game.

It was my favorite game of last year and is probably my favorite platinum trophy so far.

Same here, I was extremely positively surprised by it. It's also one of only four S-ranks I managed to aquire. Too bad it didn't get a lot of attention, there was a lot of prejudice because it's from Koei. But I loved it.

Cool list, I got some ideas for myself from it. 4-5 games I've never heard of before.

If you wouldn't mind sharing what did you think of Venetica?

I've seen it for cheap lately and was thinking about picking it up. I ask you because from the look of it you and I have very similar tastes in games.

@Slag:

Hi :)

Well to be honest, I was pretty disappointed by Venetica. The graphics look very dated and the combat is somehow annoying. I picked it up quite long ago, stopped playing it and just recently tried to get back into it. But after a short period of time I stopped again because it's just no fun...

However, if you've got nothing else to play right now and it's cheap anyway you might as well just give it a shot.

@Morrow: Thanks! that's the kind of answer I was looking for. Often times I've discovered closeout games are pretty "meh". I just recently made that mistake with Glory of Heracles, and I want my 5 dollars back. :(

I've got an insane backlog that I'm still chewing through that dates back to last gen, yet somehow I convinced myself I should be playing Dragon's Dogma instead. Hah that game has me hooked!

Think I'll pass on Venetica unless it gets insanely cheap.

Thanks again!

seems you like the anime stuff, if im correct, then id highly highly recommend checking out asuras wrath, especially since you can get it for 20 bucks now

its kind of a thin game (more of a interactive anime, its 1/3 qtes, 1/3 character action game, and 1/3 on rails ) but if it isnt one of the best animes ive ever had to interact with, its insane just like bayonetta, but it still tells a good resonant story,
