I've heard this complaint about weapons/armour breaking and durability issues, but I've never had a weapon or armour break. I'm under the impression that every time you rest at a bonfire all your equipment is repaired? I have played 5 hours and not spent a single soul on repairs.
I think it depends on what you start with. I started as a warrior with a broken sword, and it was really frustrating until I found more weapons. I decided to restart as a swordsman and found it much easier - dual wielding FTW! Later in the game I'm sure it gets easier, but until I unlocked the Blacksmith I lived in terror of breaking a weapon!
I love the game, but the controls took some getting used to, considering I was playing DS1 up until the day before I got it. I feel like the controls aren't quite as precise, but perhaps that will improve as I level my character.
Demon's souls...all the management of world/character tendency was crazy. And I didn't realize I needed pure white to get one ring, so it took me 2.5 playthroughs.
If you like the katana, I would start focusing on dex and drop strength. You may be underpowered because you've leveled both evenly - the katana scales with dex, but strength doesn't matter. I had trouble with Sen's as well, but for me it was mostly the swinging axes. Try to make it to the bonfire, and don't be afraid to use a bow to take out some of the enemies on the way. It's very helpful not to have someone shooting at you while you try to run between the swinging axes! I found Sif challenging, but only because I wanted to cut his tail. If you don't care about that, he's a breeze.
I have a Vita 2000. The screen is really nice, I have no complaints at all (certainly it is better than the 3ds screen, and it also compares well to my Iphone 5.) It's lightweight and has great battery life, and it charges with a standard charger. I've not owned an original Vita, but I am happy with mine.
If you haven't played Final Fantasy X you should get the HD version when it comes to PS3 in a few months. That's the last game that really felt like FF to me. XIII was fun - battles are fast paced and the system is interesting - but the characters are kind of dull. Lightning returns looks fun, from what little of the demo I've played, and I'm thinking about getting it. Do you prefer action RPGs? I'd recommend Nier (fantastic story). I also really enjoyed Eternal Sonata, but I may be alone in that. I just bought Tales of Xillia, but I haven't done more than look at the intro, so I can only tell you that other people seem to like that one. Do the Souls games count as JRPGs? If you haven't played them you should.
