Am I worried that this game will kind of sink and blend in with the rest of the modern-day action games by adopting influences from other titles? Somewhat.
Am I mad that I'm not getting a game that plays exactly in the style of its predecessors? Not in the slightest. I think the age of gratuitous nudity, coitus minigames, wanton gory violence for the sake of it and mad berserker protagonists has run its course for this series. But that's just me.
Eh. Seems rather pointless to me considering its only functionality would be for co-op purposes, but I think the strengths in modern Far Cry's casts always emanated from its villains. They're the ones that get the biggest marketing pushes and often make the plots more interesting. Get someone who hasn't played Far Cry 3 to describe a character from the story and I almost guarantee that a large majority will identify and start talking about Vaas.
That's not to say the PCs are often poorly developed in these games, but I don't think we'd lose a whole lot from this so long as the cult preacher antagonist is interesting enough. That's my take on it.
Most excited about Zelda: Breath of the Wild - To me, the element of player choice and flexibility in approaching different goals was what Zelda was sorely missing all this time, so I'm glad that the open-ended nature of the game and the exploration elements are taking huge steps to rectify that.
Most surprised about Quake: Champions - I wasn't a huge Quake fan back in the day, but if Doom and Wolfenstein are anything to go off of, I expect big things from this installment, even if it's multiplayer-only.
Most worried about Recore - I just wasn't enthralled by the gameplay at all. I like the concept and the art style, but it looked very stiff, uninspired and... *shudder*... linear.
I guess I'll keep beating a dead horse - tower defense. With other genres, I can find at least one silver lining in keeping them alive, but even my favorite TD game Plants vs. Zombies has gone into the gutter. There's no intuition when playing tower defense games at all; most of the time you just place units down in specific areas and watch them fight for you. Even the best tower defense games bore me half to death within minutes of starting them up unless there's some kind of way I can affect the outcome of the battle directly.
At this point, a new F-Zero. I mean, sure, anything could happen, and it was referenced in Nintendo Land, but because of its absence on the Wii - not to mention the antigrav karts in Mario Kart 8 - it makes me doubt we'll see a fully-fledged F-Zero game anytime soon.
On that note, a new Mother/Earthbound game, as well.
Wow, this is a hard one... both games are platformers but they both play very differently... and they're both very passionate and have great soundtracks...
I'm gonna guess Galaxy is going to win, but I personally had more fun with Meat Boy because it was more challenging and felt more rewarding to complete. My vote goes to that one.
