Duke Nukem Forever Demo Impressions

The demo is finally live!!!! All I can say is, June 14 can't come soon enough.  Full disclosure, I was playing the PC version.

This demo gives a fairly good representation of what is to come, but there's so much that they're holding out on. The game plays well, up to conventional standards in this genre. The guns are fun to use and there's a good variety of them with the shotgun being my pick. However, the shrink ray and devastator are great, despite their brief appearance. The aiming feels a little sluggish, but can be tweaked in the options. There's no option for mouse smoothing, which is a disappointing.

This is also pretty to look at as well, with some nice effects. There's a lot shine on the models (similar to Riddick), but this didn't get in the way. There are a few options to tweak the graphics such as anti-aliasing, textures, vertical sync and so on, so nothing overly complicated. The game seems pretty good at scaling and the changes happen instantly instead of having to quit the game and start it up again.

I've heard a few complaints about the load times (at least on console), but in my experience, the loading is fast. The longest being five seconds. Since the game has gone gold, I wonder how this will end up in retail builds of the game.

I'm happy with how this turned out, but let's hope that some of the minor issues are fixed up before launch. If that isn't possible, that's why patches exist. What are your thoughts?

I finished L.A. Noire, and... (Spoilers)

This post contains SPOILERS!!

I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed with how the game ends. The game does have a great pace as you play, but the switch up to playing Kelso and Phelps being demoted was a surprise to me. The cases in arson are interesting in the fact that the evidence leads to a bigger conspiracy. These parts of the game gave the pace an interesting change. Also the flashbacks throughout start to make sense as the pieces are put together, same with the newspapers discovered throughout.

At the end of the game, the story doesn’t give a good sense of closure. Phelps gets killed, a funeral service is held for him. THE END. What about the rest of the conspiracy? What happened to the rest of the players involved and did the project get stopped? Thanks a lot for a bad sense of closure. For the last few games from Rockstar, they ended on a high note but didn’t leave players hanging.

This can lead to a few things. Team Bondi are planning to continue the conspiracy in a sequel or that’s that, take it as you will. I’m not a fan of this type or story telling, but what are your thoughts on this?

Feels like forever

How long has it been since I've updated this? I visit the site everyday and sometimes do updates to some of the wiki pages. I just did the one for Deathsmiles IIX and for DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu Ver 1.5. I'm planning on doing more to my community pages. I've slowly started to come back to this, beginning with my YouTube page and restarting my Twitter as well. I'm hoping to keep this page ongoing as well, on top of my other ones as well like MyIGN.

So keep an eye out and looking forward to meeting all of you here.

This feels similar to me

I did play The King of Fighters XII and it was okay, to be honest. The sprites and backgrounds were very well done and the fighting was fairly good, but everything else surrounding the package just wasn't developed. The roster was small, characters were missing moves, and the modes felt boring, especially the online mode being unplayable at points. With that said, I was kind of surprised that SNK Playmore announced The King of Fighters XIII. After XII, I thought that the series was done for. What could they possibly do to fix the series? After seeing the footage from the Preview Event and Loektest footage on YouTube, it turns out, a lot can be done.

I'm glad that they brought back the speed of the old games and the ability to do SDM moves as well. The new EX system seems similar to Street Fighter IV, but I'm not complaining. The roster is what got me though. The last game was lacking female fighters, with the Women's Fighting Team from King of Fighters 94 returning, I'm happy. Also because I now have more options for custom teams. I'm still curious as to who the other fighters are (Please K' and Garou Teams from XI). However, this seems a lot like The King of Fighters 2002. Not that it's a bad thing, but it seems to forget or dismiss some of the systems from The King of Fighters XI (I digress, the cancel system is somewhat similar).

This seems as if they're just copying stuff from that game and making it fit into XIII. I'm sure there's something original or new coming for this game, but SNK isn't ready to talk about it yet. I hope there is because if not, why should i really play this if I have 2002? I'm still excited for it, but I'm not sure. We'll have to see when the game comes out.

GFW Live now FREE!!!!

i went searching the usual game sites for new news and i found that Microsoft said that "Games For Windows - LIVE" is now free. i have to say that it's about time. multiplayer gaming should be free, even MMO games. i didn't really see what was the point  of charging PC players to play online. i'm glad that's removed, so now i can play Gears of War online.

now, i wonder if Microsoft will do the same for Xbox Live.

Fallout 3 Suprise

heyo. this is my first blog, so enjoy.

i went to pre-order "Fallout 3: Collector's Edition (CE)" at EB Games and was a bit suprised with what i found. i checked the website for the price and it was listed for 70 dollars. anyway, i asked to pre-order the game and i was told that the price for the CE was 50 dollars. that's 20 dollars cheaper than what was listed. i asked why and the response i got was "that's what the computer said." so, BONUS!!!!! an extra 20 bucks in my pocket. but it did make me wonder, why is it cheaper than normal and how come the 360 and PS3 versions aren't cheaper as well? i guess it's a matter of luck.

anyway, other than that, this game is going to be fun and worth the hype. now, i'm going to go play "Fallout 2" and enjoy myself.
