Surprisingly fun game. A side-scrolling platformer/SHOOTER with BATMAN. No, those aren't Batarangs - you'll have to find that power-up. Other power-ups include: Short gun, Wave gun, Power gun, and Tranquilizer gun. Batman starts with a Normal gun.
The gameplay is like if Megaman was in Contra, because it's a side-scrolling shooter where you collect power-ups, aaaaaand you can't shoot up. The second shoot 'em up level on the Batwing was pretty cool too, until the safe spot in the bullet patterns become too obvious. A short game with the right amount of difficulty and good music to boot. A nice game to bring for a long bus ride home.

Or "Rockman World".
This game will test your reflexes, timing, and most importantly, patience. Pretty much the standard skills needed for the "Mega Man" series. The difficulty will require many trial-and-error playthroughs until the levels become a breeze - until you get to the boss fight. If you're bad like me, it becomes an endurance test of spamming the B-button to see whether you or the Robot Master goes down first (looking at you, Quick Man).
Though a Game Boy game, I recommend playing it on the Game Boy Advance. Playing on the black-and-white Game Boy pocket made it hard to see what was going on, and the GBA will at least make Mega Man orange.
A short and sweet game with familiar bosses, great 8-bit soundtrack, and Mega Man! in a portable cartridge.

A Mario game with a lot of freedom - being able to explore the level instead of forcing you to move one direction, collected coins can be spent for mini-games, and you can choose the pathway for whatever stage you want to tackle on first. A great game for nostalgia or first time players, but not a game of platforming challenge. Because any stage can be selected after the introduction level, the game doesn't increase in difficulty the further you get into the game. In fact, most levels are a bit too easy (you can fly over most of the levels with the rabbit ear power-up), but it's whether you want to explore and find all the 1-ups and coin rooms, or beat it quick and easy. Each level has its own theme and way of playing, but the only challenge is the final stage. The reason the final stage is so difficult compared to the rest of the game is because it becomes more of a platformer, and there are no checkpoints, meaning you better learn to get past every trap if you want to take on the final boss in your best form. Though extra lives are never a problem in this game. After every level, there's a mini game for a chance to win 1 or 3 hearts. You'll never fear the "Game Over" screen, and if you do manage to lose all lives, you start again where you were with 5 lives. Those familiar with the game can easily clear this game with 99 lives in less than an hour.
A very fun game, but will not test your platforming skills like the first Super Mario Land. A completely different game from the first, but equally enjoyable.
