The "Solid" moniker has nothing to do with just Solid Snake. It just sounds cool. The only reason MGS1 wasn't called Metal Gear 3 was to avoid confusion and alienation to people who have never played the first two games.
@Piranesi: The Covenant will be speaking their own language in this game... Also, the reason why they speak english in the other games is because the UNSC developed translation technology that allows people to understand what the aliens are saying. Those shiny armored suits give a better explanation for regenerating health than "lol im usin ma manliness 2 heel" like in CoD. If you know that sci-fi "bollocks" isn't meant to be taken seriously, then why are you bitching about it? Fan service is awesome. Especially since this is Bungie's last Halo game. You haven't played the game yet, so you don't know if the ending will be unsatisfying. From what I heard, it's awesome.

No one said he was Patriotic. In fact, his anti-patriotism is part of what makes him awesome. And after the events of MGS1, he was never dragged back into the battlefield again; he went back on his own terms, for his own goals(see; the entire point of MGS2.)
