"Remind me why I should pay more for games so that non-existent mom and pop game shops can thrive?"
The thing is, oftentimes when a new-release comes out, a place like wal-mart will sell the item either at cost or sometimes even below the cost. They call those "loss leaders". They are items that will draw you into their stores with the hope that you will buy something else during your visit.
But like I said, retailers never make more than 5-15% on games so it's not like you're being deprived of that huge deal. In case you didn't know, unlike games most of the stuff you buy has a profit margin of 100% and up. It's not unfair, that's how business is. People often claim "your broken business model is not my problem". Well, it partly is. I don't know if you guys have heard of all the developers closing recently? It ain't a coincidence.
I'mĀ sorry guys but this story is a crock of bull. How do I know that? I worked as buyer for two different game retail stores for years.
Well first of all, games have a profit margin of 5-15%
Secondly, if there's an MSRP, thank god that way independent retailers can survive and not be crushed under the buying power of Best Buy / Gamestop / Wal-Mart
if you want numbers, a game that sells for 59.99 will be sold from the distributor to the retailer between 50-57$
You pay that much for games because it corresponds with the prices distributors and retailers pay for them themselves.
The blue enemies' were the game artist's April Fool. That blue thing was a pretend tamagotchi thing you'd get and he'd follow you everywhere. On some shoots he looks like an S&M big tittied squirrel. crazy.
oh, and *signs*
I've beaten the game and got real good high scores on all Speed Runs except the full game.
I guess if you don't like original games or with a deep and engaging story or revolutionary gameplay mechanics, or feeling that your purchase goes towards a genuinely devoted developer
I don't know what all the damn whining is about. I would have paid 30$ for it if I had to. I'm in a state of sense-shock since I finished it. It haunts me, like after I've seen a movie or read a book with a deeper meaning than you see at first sight.
Sincerely, what other game does that? how can you quantify such an experience?
Braid is amazing and the devs deserve every penny they ask for. Please keepĀ in mind that 15$ for a completely original title is very cheap and if the little profit they make allows them to work on a new and better game that will blow my mind again then I don't want to miss this.
People go to the moviesĀ all the time, certainly you do. A night at the movies: - leaves you with nothing to show for it - does not last as long. - tickets for two cost more than Braid - you are only entitled to one showing
Get your priorities straight, people. I'm sure everyone of you has paid more for a game that you have played less than you will Braid
sometimes I think you're all just a bunch of damn communists. nothing is free. especially not making games.
Braid gives a lasting experience, much like reading a great novel or watching a great movie. It makes you think and challenges the conventions of gaming.
A case of beer gives you a buzz for a few hours, just like any other case of beer.
It's the singularity of the experience that matters and how rewarding and challenging it is.
