You also get double experience and other bonuses for working with your squad...so there is some incentive to follow orders

@trimon

You don't quite command like in an RTS, they say you are still in an FPS mode and still involved on the battlefield....they haven't really explained much further than that.

btw, how do you quote in these comments?

Did nobody read any of the hands-on previews from the other sites?
It won't be chaotic....the maps are huge, and divided into squads of  players.
There are squad leaders who can give orders without usiing a microphone, and players get twice as much experience for working with their squad rather than going solo. Squad leaders are given orders by platoon leaders and there is an overall officer in charge. It's all very objective-based.

Also, Zipper already have had this working with 256 players online (zipper and SCEA california playing) since the end of last year, and considering that Zipper specialise in making online FPS games this game has as good a chance of any as running smoothly.

So give this game a chance before blindly criticizing it.

There is some talk about a PSP port, which is entirely possible. But it is impossible for it to hit any other consoles and would be highly unlikely to go to the PC, given that none of Sony's other consoles games have gone to PC (only Sony Online Entertainment have done PC games, but they're moving to console slowly too)

Someone has already made one on the beta. It is up on youtube somewhere, but i can't remember the name of it. But I'm sure there will be better implementations over time.

I think they're becoming compulsory soon. Those few games where they started development earlier and are too lazy to go back and add it in have been allowed a bit of a grace period.

You'd get much more than a half...more like 80-90%. You can still:

  • create levels offline and share them online
  • can create co-op offline,
  • play co-op offline & online
  • make a level, and send it to someone else for them to improve
  • play the single-player campaign

I think the hype will quickly come back if it proves to be decent and useful. People have reduced the amount of hype they have because there has been no guarantee of when it would come out, but once it is out hopefully that will change

It depends on how they are implemented. If it is just a press x to not die, then I agree they are a waste of space. But if what has been shown on Heavy Rain where it's press X to fight, circle to hide and square to run or something along those lines then it starts to become a bit more interesting.
It's very easy to be lazy with QTEs, but if a creative effort is made they can be useful.

Unlikely you'd get much of an answer, but you could ask them how much of a wait it's going to be for that patch (rough time frames), and what else they are considering including in the patch.
