Over the past 21 months that I've hosted the Boohbah Zone, there's some interesting and surprising uses of the Boohbah zone. The site gets between 5000 and 8000 visitors per month. While most of the visitors seem to type in the name directly, most visitors do seem to come from Giant Bomb, Reddit and NeoGAF. However, it seems like it is also still being used as an "educational" tool. There's several referrals from .edu domain startpages. Several months ago, while moving the boohbah zone to a new server, I had appended a small notice regarding the move to the page. I was contacted by a parent whose disabled daughter liked to play with the Boohbah Zone using the Eagle Eyes Eye controlled mouse. Apparently the message was interfering with her use of the site. To my surprise the app was actually listed on their site, together with an overview of all the activities. "This is one of the best cause and effect websites we have found." Good stuff!
Now on to the bad news. While I can continue to host DanRyckert.eu, the universe seems to be throwing another roadblock in the way of the continued existence of the Boohbah Zone. Google will start disabling Flash in Chrome before the end of the year, and Firefox will follow suit shortly after. Because the Boohbah Zone is a flash applet, it will stop working in your browser once this change goes through. I looked into ways to preserve the Boohbah Zone for future "flashless" generations, but it's not looking good. I found some tools to convert Flash games to HTML5, but most of these tools only support apps built with ActionScript 3. The Boohbah Zone, being an old ass applet, was made using ActionScript 2, so I didn't have much luck.
If someone wants to make a coordinated effort in rebuilding the Boohbah zone in HTML5, I'm more than willing to help, but my time is limited. I have created a Github repository with the (decompiled) assets, which can be found here in case anybody wants to take a crack at building something new: https://github.com/Ganonmaster/BoohbahZone
