Few recent games immediately jumped out to me as "Great!" like No More Heroes. A game that's completely nonsensical yet fully aware at the same time.
Yes, the game was fun and emotional, but what did it for me were the environments. Virtually lifeless, the world was filled with character.
Claustrophobic, with excellent level design.
Frightening, without a single "Boo!".
Walls of text have become a video game no-no. That's because they weren't written like Planescape: Torment.
A world so well realized, you owe the game locked doors, shut lights, and total attention.
Along with Part 2, the games with which I've logged the most hours -- no, days.
High on nostalgia, but it is still an excellent game.
It's popularity taints the choice, but it's adventure is sprawling and engaging.
Adventure games demand great stories, great characters, and great worlds; the Longest Journey has them.
The pacing was perfect. The only sequel I can think of that did nothing new and still exceeded its predecessor in every way. I didn't even touch the multiplayer.
