They would have never made it past Naraku, anyway. By no fault of their own! Main series SMT will probably always be just enough under the radar to provoke much discussion at most outlets, unless certain staff members are already fans.
Didn't catch this in time, but Protagonist (Shin Megami Tensei IV) should have stayed. While "Flynn" is kind of an unofficial official name, appearing as a default during the naming sequence, he's never called that by any official means, always "Hero" or "Main Character." If anything, Flynn should appear as an alias while the name should revert back to Protagonist (Shin Megami Tensei IV).
So yeah, Flynn ---> Protagonist (Shin Megami Tensei IV), alias Flynn
They spell it this way in the English ver. of SMT4, which is his first localized appearance

Man, if you don't want to waste time for no reason, stay the hell away from SMT IV's optional content. For some of the monumental steps forward the game features, there's a few regressions to states worse than in previous games. It's weird.
And on the topic of Charon, I think it was a good idea but in practice far inferior to just saving anywhere and everywhere and every single damn time you do anything.
@kratosx: Where in Baltimore are you living? City or County?
If you want to connect to other gamers, Baltimore is central to a large Midatlantic network of gaming events, such as MAGfest, which is in the DC area every January. The BitGen game music festival, in the city, is coming up August 10th, and a lot of my friends will be there, most of whom were fellow gamers I met at my college's (UMBC) game room.
There's much more to the city than violent, drug-related crime (which you will completely avoid if you stay away from certain areas). I spent the first 25 years of my life in the western/southwestern part of the county and can vouch that Baltimoreans, while often crass, have a lot of heart. Engage with the locals, even gamers if you want, and you should have a ball, hon.
