I've also been swapping out my abilities pretty regularly but that's more out of the want to not just use blink and stealth all day. The only system I feel like I don't partake in is the character trinkets or whatever they call it. I just slap the upgraded regen and max health/power and never look back.
That kinda summarizes my main issue with the gameplay itself. I felt like the game did not challenge me to try new approaches or use any weapon other than the silenced SMG. I mostly did so out of boredom.
Not to mention the gun upgrades mostly being forgettable. The big magazine gun perk doesn’t even work on the single shot sniper; you still only get one shot.
Edit: Not really a knock against the game or anything, but it was easier than I expected to do a no abilities, no guns golden loop. Granted, I just sprinted past everyone and set off all kinds of alerts, killed only the visionary with the machete, and ran back out. If anyone wants to get the Cleanish hands achievements, this is a dumb way to do it, but I can confirm that it is a way.
@dareitus: Honestly, how linear it is is the biggest bummer. I'm not even done with the story, but it already feels like a slog getting through the quest lines so the game tells me to do the single golden route to complete the game. When I first started the game, I though there would be a lot of strategy in how you approached the challenge, but it turns out there are exactly zero choices you make in how you get all visionaries in one day.
This game also doesn't live up to the comparisons to Hitman, since I really don't feel like I ever see the impact of my own actions on the level in the same way you do in Hitman. I can only think of two instance where you can set up an environmental/accidental kill, and the game hand holds you to both of those. In a way, levels feel more linear than dishonored.
I can echo a lot of the sentiment on here that it is fun, and great in many ways, but also fairly mediocre in others. All I can add is my gripe with how it handles puzzles in the game. I think it doesn't clearly communicate when you can solve a puzzle in the game. Since it's a time loop game, you can miss steps early on, rendering the puzzle incompletable. Or you can stumble across what seems like a puzzle, but gotten to it too early to solve it. I just find the puzzle solving frustrating because I never know if I can't solve it because I'm dumb and not looking at the problem the right way, or if I am just there at the wrong time and am wasting my time.
I happy these guys found a new project that works better for them. I'm not really sold on it as a product just yet. The immediate concern I have is that it is going to be a choice between Giant Bomb or Nextlander. For instance, right now on their Twitch they are playing the power washing game, which just appeared on UPF on Friday. Like, as much as I like the crews at Giant Bomb and the trio at Nextlander, it doesn't seem that interesting to watch both of them play the same games and comment on the same news. All of which is to say, I'm sure they've got ideas, and I look forward to seeing what they create over there. I hope letting these guys run wild in their own project will lead to something pretty cool.
