Games Completed: 2014 Edition

Part 3 of my ongoing ego trip. Let's go.

Chronologically, as always:

List items

  • LIQUID

  • [I'm leaving this one as is. It was Chronicles+ though]

This game was pretty cool. Obviously a step back from Origin (which came out later, so yeah). The Bump system is kinda, uhh.. well it's pretty good at dealing with regular enemies. Boss fights, on the other hand ugh

... Oh, and don't get me started on that god-awful last boss fight. Who thought that was a good idea?

  • [This is the one that counts as Ys II Chronicles+]

    Ys games are pretty good.

Music wasn't as godlike as the first game, but the improvements made to the gameplay made up for it.

(Also, the last boss isn't complete bullshit so I'd rate this game higher)

  • RULES

    OF

    NATURE

  • What qualifies as "beating" this game?

The furthest I've gotten at the moment (22/01/2014) is beating Hard mode with EruErufu the Elf, and Normal mode with Mel(via Siebel) the Amazon. I'll update this with other characters later if I feel like it.

  • Cool game.

    Frustrating at times.

Hokage are hella broke and got my scrubby ass through NG and NG+

  • Cool game. (again)

Really good OST; or at least, I liked it a whole lot.

    Also, the dialogue is A+++

  • I had a very love-hate relationship with this game.

If you wanna play it, don't be afraid to check certain stuff online or you'll be wandering around aimlessly for >2 hours at a time.

"Guideless" only got me about halfway through the game, all the way up to having only the teleport maze in Gate of Illusion to do, where pressing down on a random spot was how to proceed.

  • Before I beat this game, I said something along the lines of "this is the second worst Mega Man game I've played".

... after beating it I guess it wasn't /that/ bad

    Still:

    why are Ryu's tatsus invincible

why is Blanka's weapon a watermelon (I found out later)

why is the Vega/Claw fight so bullshit

  • Duo-op.

    Dear David Cage,

    I have a cousin named Aiden and it's pronounced "A-den" not "eye-den"

  • "The DMC4 of JRPGs" - Me, 2014

A perfect example of a good (maybe great?) game that is too long for its own good (if you want to do/see everything, perhaps people who decided to not do all of the second-half-of-the-game subquests would have a different opinion).

That being said, I enjoyed my /extended/ time with it and the special movie slash sequel tie-in was hype. 4 out of 5 stars

  • Fuck you, Dark Souls.

This is definitely a sequel. In parts a lot better; in other parts a lot worse. Playing through again with an INT build instead of the STR one I used to see how different it is.

    EDIT: INT build is cool.

EDIT: Platinum-ed! FUCK YOU, DARK SOULS

  • I told you I was in the vortex.

(even though it took me like, a year to get around to beating this game)

    Currently playing through Axel Mode.

EDIT: Beat Axel Mode. Ending was perfect. PERFECT

  • BlazBlue story's still a BB story. I almost threw my controller when the credits started rolling but apparently they had to split it into 2 games?

(It's still better than the earlier two stories though)

I'm gonna learn Bullet because reasons

  • Beat the revised story, getting both endings. I didn't think that they were as good as the original ones. The story leading up to it though was great; game went hella anime

Also, the gameplay is better, but that's to be expected

  • Beat it on Nephilim. Game's okay, I guess

"Demon Dodge > Overdrive/Trinity Smash: The Game" - Me, 2014

  • This game features a naked Tony Abbot

  • Obristan Above All.

    [more words coming eventually]

[eventually]: Got all the achievements for the game. I AM THE PAPERS PLEASE MASTER

  • The rule "Finishing all of a fighting game's story mode counts as beating it" applies here.

  • This game's alright.

    Also, fuck this game.

Shoutouts to the Engineer class for carrying me to victory

  • I can't be the only one that had Alvin wear aviators for the whole game

  • I'm gonna start doing a "Best part, worst part, comments" thing for these.

Best Part: Time attack in NG+, Gale Shoes

Worst Part: Loading times in the towns

Comments: Not exactly the Ys game that I wanted to play, but it's still a pretty good game in its own right. Liked it enough to plat it, if that says anything!

  • Best Part: Narukami 08 (the colour palette)

Worst Part: How repetitive the story mode gets

Comments: Finally got 100% in the story mode. Only took over a year to do it because damn is that shit repetitive

  • Best Part: Looks damn good

Worst Part: The game's physics feel all fucked up, causing a lot of problems and making a bunch of the stuff in the game significantly worse than earlier Wipeout games

Comments: Unfortunately, this is the worst Wipeout game I've ever played. It's sad, because I loved the games from last gen

  • Best Part: Up-slashing with Zhou Tai at the end of duels

Worst Part: ALL of the DW4 mechanics that were cut-pasted into the DW7 engine, as well as the shitty Vita gimmicks

    Comments: This game is garbage

  • Best Part: The soundtrack, Hyde

Worst Part: Survival Mode. That's some bullshit

Comments: I was originally gonna put this here after beating all the story (which I have to wait for the English release next year to fully understand anyways) but then I Platinum-ed it so I guess that's as "beaten" as a fighting game's gonna get

  • Best Part: Hm. The last boss? That was pretty awesome

Worst Part: Chapter 11. Red Millaaaaa

Comments: This game is long as fuck (if you're playing with the intention of getting everything from the outset), took me longer to just beat the game than it did for me to Platinum the first game! And that was two playthroughs!

The story in a nutshell: "Poor Ludger. Poor, poor Ludger." Was good, but really depressing. That Bad End fight too, fuck

  • Best Part: When I died, but before my ship blew up it flew into a health pickup and I didn't die (the view was still in third person though - was weird)

Worst Part: The boss fights that consisted of "enemy standing in middle of small room shooting you"

Comments: I played the shareware version of this a long-ass time ago, but bought it after seeing Megagross' design and having that remind me of a ship in this game. yep

  • Best Part: "I always liked S™T™A™R™ W™A™R™S™."

Worst Part: Typical Adventure Game bullshit

    Comments: Fuck this game

  • Best Part: The thorn, easy.

    Worst Part: Goddamn GLAIVES aaaAAAあああアアア

Comments: Pretty good game, despite its bullshit and relative lack of enemy variety (for its genre). I'm not sure whether I can go back to other hunting games after the godlike mobility you get from the thorn. Platinumed the game too, so it's at least that good

  • ("Beaten" as in "Hit the credits in single player")

Best Part: Swatting things out of the air with a Great Sword

Worst Part: Those characters that use broken-ass romaji in their sentences

    Comments: [Great Sword noises]

  • Best Part: Finding a good line through a stage where you can just down shift the whole time

Worst Part: Forced waiting sections. Not the parts where you have to wait for timing, but like during the last boss

Comments: Light World only. If that doesn't count well then too bad.
