Best of 2010

List items

  • Best story of the year. All of the main characters could be argued to be "best character of the year". BioWare realized that while ME1 had a great story, it wasn't very fun to play. ME2 fixes all of that with awesome controls, great shooting, and epic battles. The only drag this game has is a cliche end battle. But missing 1 shot out of 1000 is pretty much negligible. If more games had stories of this caliber, there wouldn't be an argument of "are games art" because it would be a definite yes.

  • The epic conclusion of Krato's story. Filled with jaw-dropping moments, from starting the game climbing Mt. Olympus on the back of a Titan to actually killing a Titan in one of the most impressive looking boss fights ever. The end game is nothing like what has been seen in a God of War game and is a great reason to buy a PS3.

  • Basically an expansion of AC2, ACB just gets out of its own way and lets the player have fun. Throw in some highly unique multiplayer that is not for the twitch gamer, and this game makes a bid of best game of 2010. Really, the only thing holding it back is a slightly clumsy endgame and franchise fatigue, since AC2 was released less than a year ago. Ubisoft, release AC3 is 2012, give your developers time to add all new amazing features and you will win Game of the Year.

  • The perfect downloadable game ever. All other downloadable games will be compared to this so developers be warned. If you aren't better then Pac-Mac CEDX, don't think you can win game of the year.

  • John Marston may just be the best character of the year. Tied together with a classic western cowboy story, this game far surpasses any of Rockstar's previous efforts, including GTA4. Yeah, the Mexico section may drag on for a bit, but even that can't drag this game down.

  • A Halo game with an actual story and characters. It may have taken Bungie 5 games to figure out "oh wait, we should probably actually write a story instead of just putting Master Chief in random maps that are poorly tied together", the story of Noble-6 tells the beginning of the Master Chief story (with a special easter egg, no spoilers) and the Fall of Reach at the attack of the covenant. Detailed with Halo's usual amazing mutliplayer makes this one game Sci-Fi gans should own.

  • 3 classic ps2 games bundled together for a reduced price. Even if this was a full price game, this packages together three of the best ps2 games redone in HD. If you never played it back in the day, now is the time to enjoy it.

  • The Trauma Center developer decided just being a surgeon wasn't enough. So they expanded the idea to include other medical occupations. While surgery is still front and center, there is also a focus on diagnostics, paramedic, and forensics. This game is like no other released this year and deserved more attention than what it got.

  • The main characters hair serves as both clothing and weapon. Enough said.

  • God of Zelda. As long as you don't let the fact that the core game is ripped out of two more popular games, you'll realize that this type of game doesn't come out very often or on non-nintendo platforms. For a game that came out in January, it's made a lasting impression.
