Sorry but I can’t enjoy this properly with the audio quality. Not one to be picky about audio but I was really looking forward to relaxing with a review of Wrestlemania but I can’t comprehend a lot of this and what I can, requires a level of effort which cancels out the enjoyment :(
One thing about the video’s structure; if you’re making a “hot take” then just commit to it and focus on your point. There was just a little too much “now I know this is going to cause controversy”, “I know people like this” and “of course I understand that…” prefixes to too many paragraphs for me to just focus on your point.
If you’ve got an opinion, own it. No need to asterisk every point within it. If people can’t grasp the ideas of those precursors, they’re not the kind of audience that’s ever going to give your opinions time anyway. Best to do the best job of speaking to one audience than diluting your point to make sure everyone gets where you’re coming from.
Nice job! Well-conceived idea, nicely shot and edited, good collaboration with other staff members, looking forward to the next one!
One thing I thought is that some of the confusion about the controls might have been mitigated by reading the manual first. Old games kinda required that to be done before playing in a lot of situations. Also, I think just going through the manual would be a nice segment of this series. I really miss manuals and their designs. Reading them in the car on the way home from buying a new game as a kid was always exciting and I couldn't wait to get through the door and start playing. Maybe a good idea for future episodes.
Damn Ben, sit up. I love you and your style but you seem lazy here. Apologies if there's a health-related reason for this I'm not aware of (its a long podcast and I'm zoning in and out as a result of it "being on in the background" so maybe there's something I missed).
Never heard of her. Read all this, searched for her name on google, didn’t find anything. Added “abuse” to the name query and TIL. What she did or didn’t do isn’t the biggest worry for me personally. It’s just GB speaking so passionately about vetting better and then this happens. I’m not so sure that what this Merrit girl, ahem - merits this backlash (🥁) but the bigger issue is that having anybody on with this kinda history kinda negates all the inclusivity and “we’ll try harder” stuff Vinny has talked about in the past which is a shame. I guess they should just add “abuse” onto the end of their search terms when doing future vetting!?
Regardless, let’s put this behind us. I feel for Abby but she’ll learn from it. I’d give anything to be able to just laugh on this site again and have it be a site that acts as an escape from all the serious crap in the world instead of one that focuses on it.
