As someone who put a lot of hours into The Crow: City of Angels as a kid, I don't think this seems that bad. It feels like a 90's throwback more than anything, especially in the early polygonal days where everything controlled like ass.
Also, the heartbeat sound is indicating where you are supposed to go next.
Only recently discovered that the PC Engine CD is the system I've always wanted. Instead of all the janky FMV crap there was on SEGA CD, 3DO and PC, these games (due to limitations) all had RAZOR SHARP pixel art and cool anime style and where the CD-Rom tech was used was in the voice acting and redbook audio. What a great system!
Like everyone else probably have pointed out by now, Darcsens are, in the context of Valkyria Chronicles, a fantasy equivalent to gypsies and Jews. For instance, the first game has you liberating an Imperial concentration camp for Darcsens.
In the lore of the game the Darcsens are hated because of the "Darcsen Calamity", which supposedly was this great event thousand of years ago, where various Darcsen tribes battled each other with Ragnite weapons (basically had a nuclear war). However, as events unfold in the first Valkyria Chronicles, it is discovered that it wasn't the Darcsen that was at fault at all, but the invading Valkyrie.
PlayRoom is a fantastic window into other peoples lives. Here's some highlights from the last time I checked in.
That Astrobot will forever be associated with the feeling of morbid curiosity and regret that is associated with the PlayRoom for me, so I'm not sure if I can get into this game.
Thanks for stopping by Denmark. That was "French Hotdog" if you are looking to have more of them in the future, Dan. You also need to try some traditional danish smørrebrød!
Boats again? The system I really wanted to come back is the thing from Brotherhood where you press a button a bunch of dudes jump out and murder everyone.
As the series moves away from the whole assassination stuff, I think it should be re-branded as Mercenary's Creed, but I get that branding is important.
