I predict there will be a bit of popular backlash to ER's critical reception which might prevent the next FS game from reaching ER sales figures.
I finished it today after 180 hours, did near everything. It's an amazing game in many respects but it definitely has glaring weaknesses that hardly any reviewer touched upon. Not a single Souls game has burnt me out with repetitive content like ER has.
Not gonna lie... this looks suprisingly mediocre, even compared to other Ubi-open-world games.
@alpha_bit: Hell, even FC2 was still pretty unique and a very engrossing experience. After that game though ... it became ... this. A trite formula and all they ever do is change the skins of everything.
Maybe it hit us at the perfect time (pandemic lockdown stuff) but me and my neighbor (who isn't even that much into games but likes to watch them) had an absolute blast playing through this on the couch. Recently he asked if we could play through it again and we started another run on hard. Played through it by myself also a couple of times.
No seriously, Huntdown is not super complex or huge but every aspect of it is perfectly executed. It's THE most overlooked game of 2020 in my opinion.
edit:
character ranking:
1. Anna Conda (best dialogue, best/most comfortable primary weapon (burst shot), best way to play the game imo)
2. Mow Man (Cyborg dude that Jeff chose; looks badass, good weapon, some dry-funny dialogue)
3. John Sawyer (Steel jaw guy, strongest primary weapon but shoots hella slow, not as fun, generally unremarkable compared to the other two)
@daweboss: Here in Germany only old-ish houses or restaurants have gas stoves. Virtually all other households have electric / induction stoves.
I have a flat wok, too. It's a compromise, yes, you cannot really fry with this as with an actual carbon steel wok and an open gas flame but at least it's big enough to toss the ingredients around without making a mess. That's the difference to a normal pan.
Actually I considered getting some kind of on-top gas stove and a real wok but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. The logistics of it all just seem too inconvenient.
The art style is not bad - a very competent rendition of somewhat modern Saturday morning cartoons - but it misses the mark SO MUCH as a Battletoads game. The color palette, the vibe etc. It's all very different. Even the music feels "wrong"; too much shrill guitar shredding, not enough catchy buttrock riffs (which was a core ingredient to the flow of the old games).
And hell, the movement still looks like the Toads wade through molasses. Didn't they already speed it up or something after the first reactions when they revealed the game? The speed of the music is also at odds with what's happening on screen.
