Duke had better make lots of ridiculous 90's references and make outdated "topical" jokes, ala references to Monica Lewinsky... I think poking fun at what an extremely "90's" character he is would be a great potential for comedy in this and I sincerely hope they don't miss out on it. Update his quote list with some more borrowed quotes from 80's action movies too. The bubblegum quote is good, but it's time to retire it and just let it remain a good quote from "They Live".
Good, I'm glad there is some sort of policy now. I agree with the idea of putting the kanji titles in as an alias, but the primary title should at least be a transliteration. I had been using kana titles on the releases page, but I'll refrain from doing so from now on.
Why don't you list the 1700's? Prejudiced against Colonials? Anyway, I will most emphatically insist that in terms of pop culture, the 90's were largely awful; music, comics, film, the lot! The games were good, though. Now, the 1980's.... that's a time period I could set my watch to! Well, barring the politics and the crime and the economy...
Also, I love 80's synth and am proud to admit it! I love the sound of drum machines to this day.
I think it's a stretch to say anything like this is "dying"; so long as something turns a profit, people are buying them and they aren't going away. The biggest thing that has happened is that there has been a shift of interest in the west as to what kind of games are preferred, and they are simply no longer "blockbuster popular" around these parts. But hyperbole makes for exciting and dramatic reading, so phrases like DEAD and THE END OF (insert word here) will continue indefinitely. Besides, who cares what's popular or if anything is "dying" anyway? Like what you want to like and dislike what you want to dislike, and don't let anyone try to force you to do otherwise.
As for what games to play, well... I have to admit I barely play RPGs these days, and when I do it's generally something old that I've played through a million times before. So I'm in no position to recommend anything, ha ha ha. I guess that kind of makes my whole post pointless, doesn't it?
