I don't need 2 sensationalist-tainted articles to tell me Deep Silver sucks at marketing.... (Remember the first trailer of Dead Island....)
If anything this proves they're great at marketing, because I bet a lot of people bought Dead Island because of that trailer. Also, would anyone even still be aware Riptide is coming out if it weren't for this statue debacle? I didn't even know it was a sequel until this thing erupted, I just figured it was some sort of downloadable spinoff.
Also, I wouldn't want to hide all Deep Silver-related news, since now they own Volition/SR and Metro.
God damn it.
Make a 3D render of an offensive statue. Promote a fake collector edition. Never intend on actually manufacturing it.

Personally, I think that it's rather disgusting that Deep Silver decided to sell this.
Everyone's talking about your game. Free publicity.
Contrary to popular belief, there is such a thing as bad publicity. Especially when it comes to games, where word of mouth is a big driver of sales.
I'm glad for articles like this because it's a debate that needs to be had. If we want to grow as an industry and be taken seriously as a medium, these are the type of discussions we have to have.
Nah, we should just discuss the important things like why the new Devil May Cry got 5 stars how much did Capcom pay you, Brad?
I used to be ok with Patrick, but this kind of lazy article about something that could really only offend the most sensitive feminist or the "that gaben shit is stupid, fucking stop" quote really just makes me dislike his personality all together.
Someone tried to sell their game alongside a hand-painted statuette of a woman's scantily-clad-yet-graphically-dismembered torso. Dude, you don't have to be Andrea Dworkin to think that's fucked up.
I like the hunting so far but I've had a hell of a time finding any boars. Like, I'm still on the default ammo capacity because all of the boars have fucked off to live on their own Boar Island or something like that.
I thought the tutorial was great. Also really helpful, and I say that as someone who watched every bit of pre-release video that I could find. I think it kind of has to be as long and extensive as it is because this game has got just so fucking many systems going on. If the tutorial didn't cover everything, or wasn't in depth with as much as it was, it'd be extremely overwhelming to people who are new to strategy games or just XCOM, specifically.
I also don't mind the video and dialogue. They both help make your advisors seem like actual characters, and not just "Talking Head What Talks About Science" (which is how it is in Civilization.) That's something that I feel adds to the atmosphere of the game.
Edit: Specifically, how could you not like the video that plays after you first shoot down a UFO? So great!
