In that case, shouldn't the year be changed to reflect the launch of the video game, not the launch of the actual crossword puzzle? I assume you get access to all of the old puzzles, but by that logic, The Pinball Arcade should have a very old year as well.

I know the "Is this a game?" argument is played out, but this is a page about the actual New York Times Crossword Puzzle that comes with the newspaper. I don't know if it is a video game. It was approved a few months ago, so let me know if this was already discussed. Feel free to let me know if I'm in the wrong on this.
