FINAL 2014 GOTY List

This is counting all games I've played on PS3, PS4, PC, and Wii U this year. I don't own an Xbox or a handheld so those games are excluded.

It should say something about my opinion on games in general this year that my top 2 are from previous gen consoles.

A few notable AAA games that I played but intentionally omitted because they suck: Destiny, Unity, Watch Dogs

I also did not like Bayonetta 2.

Finally, Divinity is absent because I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm suffering from a bit of open world RPG fatigue after Dragon Age, so unfortunately, it won't be until 2015.

  1. Dark Souls II

  (TIER 1 - GOTY Consideration)

  This game is just awesome. It's so good that, despite being a single player only guy, I even got into the multiplayer (hooray for jolly co-op!) The four Vinny/Brad check-ins were some of my favorite g-bomb features of the year as well.

  2. South Park: The Stick of Truth

  The underwear gnomes fight is the most absurd and hilarious sequence of the year.

  3. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

  The fight mechanics and nemesis system are both incredibly entertaining. One of my only platinums on the year.

  4. Mario Kart 8

  5. The Last of Us

  (TIER 2 - Very solid games in any year)

  (Remastered). In all honesty, Left Behind (2014) alone would make this list. I did dock this because most of the content was released in 2013 though.

  9. Wolfenstein: The New Order

  Better than Destiny in pretty much every way except for multiplayer, which I could not care less about.

  10. Dragon Age: Inquisition

  (TIER 3 - Games that were interesting enough for me to put a lot of time into, but wouldn't make my GOTY list in a normal year)

  The exploration was fun but I had some major problems with it: The protagonist and storyline are completely forgettable and I also find the combat boring and repetitive.
