Games beaten in 2020

This is a simple list to keep track of all the games I've played this year and to give my short thoughts on them all. Spoilers will be unmarked

List items

  • Jan.5

This game does some incredible things I haven't seen ever before. Everything works perfectly in sync and the story evolves by how you play truly great.

  • Jan.9

Super interesting game with tons of branching paths for dialogue the main murder mystery isn't as strong as the connecting all the side characters and doing side missions.

  • Feb.13

Replay with item/enemy randomizer super interesting went to a lot of side paths and found items and weapons I normally would run past

  • Feb.20

Small JPN PS1 inspired horror game neat

  • Feb.29

Shows off how strong the psvr can be with first party production

  • March.2

    Game too long man

  • April.7

Excellent excellent excellent mystery novel be ready for it to constantly betray expectations and lie to the reader

  • April.10

A good spin-off of the yakuza series that unfortunately falters on most of the new things that were implemented. Combat is a huge step down from the previous games with less styles overall and only 1 feeling truly fleshed out. Story is decent with some good new characters showing up but none really hold a candle to any of the previous games Kiryu/Majima equivalents. Exception to this is Kuroiwa the main villain who has probably the most violent scenes in any of the yakuza like games and is just straight cappin. Detective side quests were interesting enough but too many were similar and tailing/chasing people sucked hard.

  • April.20

    Exactly how I remember it

  • May.9

One of the best mysteries I've ever read, I love so many of the characters across all these arcs. Ending was incredibly satisfying and made me cry.

  • May.15

Reaffirmed my belief that this is a very flawed but perfectly fine game. First time playing again since 2014-2015 and first experience with scholar in general. Still love darklurker and dlc bosses. Still could have used a drastic reduce in # enemies, weapon durability, and more challenging bosses overall. Aldia is a cool npc character but a horribly slow and boring boss fight.

Finally played a classic I've been meaning to get to for a long time and it's really good unsurprisingly. Areas were all well crafted except for the beginning of Island imo and the escort stuff with Ashley was never that bad. Leon is super cheesy and it's amazing.

  • June.7

Continues to cement itself as one of my favorites if not number #1 game.

  • June.23

Cute game that works as a neat thievery/stealth game

  • June.24

Really good world building and enemy design bogged down by some antiquated game design from the ps3/360 era. NPC that just order you around and looping area design make most areas feel samey. Boss design is also lacking gameplay wise.

  • July.2

    KINO

  • July.8

Actual masterpiece of a game. I've gotten to the moon chapter possibly 3 times previously and for one reason or another stopped playing the game despite loving it. Finally finished it fully for the first time and the final chapters were great as expected my favs are still Glitzville and Poshley Heights. Wonderful music, characters, world, combat this game has everything I would want out of a turn based JRPG.

  • July.13

Yeah this game is not good

  • July.18

    Re-play 100% achievements.

  • July.27

    Not bad

  • July.28

Deadly Premonition is a hard game to make a sequel for as the original was made with 0 expectations and slowly became a cult hit due to its charming/wacky story and strong characters. Originally I was disappointed with 2 because of these expectations but as I continued certain characters grew on me and the story kept me going. Technically this game falls flat but so did the previous my main gripe was the side and main missions were most if not all very tedious fetch quests or kill counters which were not nearly as prevalent in the prequel. Skateboarding is cool and I'm glad the map got reduced but traversing still takes about the same time because it's so much slower than a car. Interrogation scenes with Aaliyah are great even if I didn't like her as a character so much, patricia, york/zach are great. The ending was very strong and made me appreciate the game a lot more very pleased at how everything was wrapped up.

  • August.15

Well worth the 2nd playthrough the newly added stuff is great although the new semester still ends up lacking a bit. Kasumi is a great character and it's nice to get more time with Akechi in Maruki's fujo BL fantasy. Final palace is really well crafted and more interesting than past ones with info on how it was created and more varied environments room to room.

  • August.23

Great game Franzika and Pearl are good recurring characters and I grew to like Gumshoe and Edgeworth a lot more. Cases themselves I felt were weaker compared to the first although the finale was very good.

  • August.27

Well executed story although confusing at times. Combat can get a bit stale but is still unique compared to other 3rd person action games. Played after Control and seeing the tie ins made me appreciate this game more than the first time I tried it.

  • August.31

Jiro Sato continues to be the greatest those news segments were the best part of the whole damn game.

  • September.4

The first chapter of Higurashi has you pulled back and forth between normal and unnatural and the constant tug of emotions makes for an exciting prologue. I watched the anime when I was probably 13 so I remember some of the details and it remains a strong work.

  • September.?

Great follow up, Mion has become my lawful wife.

  • October.?

The trickiest of the Q arcs to solve for me currently as it doesnt have a corresponding A arc but well written and brings a lot of new things in after Watanagashi. I cherish Satoko and want no harm to come to her.

  • October.?

Very short but brings up Rika's character and I'm sure will be more important later on

  • October.?

Shion is bad and horrible, my opinion on her did a complete flip after this chapter. Mion is truly the best and it furthered my love for Satoko.

  • November.9

Great movie like game especially with a friend the co op stuff was really cool

  • November.10

Solves a good deal of the mysteries to previous chapters without just handing over the answer to you. Made me care a lot more about Rena as I felt she wasn't that fleshed out previously.

  • November.13

Excellent love letter to playstation and its first party franchises and shows off the power of the new console and controller extremely well

  • November.19

Such a fucking great chapter that teases you with a good ending and solves the rest of the mysteries that are left. This chapter made me the most emotional so far with the saving of Satoko and Rika, the uniting of all the friends in the end. Takano is a great villain more so when her motivation and character is more fleshed out. I do feel her relationship w/ mountain dogs and existence of Hinamizawa syndrome as the main mystery is a bit unfair if you were trying to solve without help.

  • November.19

Neat game that is fun if you want a monster/creature collectathon. Designs are interesting and the story is alright although very predictable. Characters are pretty bland as well but there is some nice moments. Flutterjam and Mothza for life. Platinum trophy got as well

  • November.29

    Happy end

  • December.16

Good lord what an incredible game by far my goty and straight into an all time favorite. Vanillaware finally makes a fully fledged game that plays as well as the art looks with a great story. Takatoshi + Tsukino kill me
