Welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! I, ZombiePie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the best community creations from the previous week.
Well, a lot has certainly happened since the last Community Spotlight. As you can see, the new site is here and already showing off its incredible potential. The first crop of Community Articles have arrived and after the launch, the site is stable and log-ins are going smoothly. For a full explanation on the site and what the future holds for Giant Bomb, check out the introductory article Chuck posted.
And before we talk about the changes, updates, and first batch of community content on the site, let’s take the time to thank Chuck for everything. This site and this artery for the Giant Bomb community simply does not exist without him. Everything you see before you is the result of hundreds of hours of hard work from Chuck and that’s simply stunning to see. With GOTY also right around the corner, I think we can all agree that Chuck deserves a much-needed break from all of the tireless work they have poured into the site. Chuck, thank you so much for everything; this community owes you massively.
If you are still having issues with logging into the site, drop a comment in the Site Tech Issues section of the Giant Bomb Discord.
Things that are now here on the site that weren’t at launch include: download buttons for videos and podcasts, more RSS feed buttons, all blogs, lists, and reviews that weren’t on the site at the start, and rich embeds for pages, including community articles. Speaking of lists, you might notice there’s a new My Lists button when you check out the Community tab. Presently there’s no way to create or edit lists, but that won’t be the case forever. The podcast audio player, on the other hand, should be working with or without premium.
The new wiki has migrated to MediaWiki, the same bones that run Wikipedia. The Giant Bomb wiki is going to take time before it launches fully and if you want to help, remember to reach out on the Wiki Street Team section of the Giant Bomb Discord. Chuck stubbed out a .com <-> wiki API resolver extension in the GitHub repo (and that's the entire wiki GitHub, by the way) but be warned, it doesn’t resolve everything. The timeline with the wiki and list feature, which have always been linked together, depends on the team of community members that are helping Chuck, and if you are willing to help, let them know!
For anyone that uses or cares about the Giant Bomb API, your API key is now available on your /profile page. Also, API key synching should be fixed so updates to your premium status should be instantly reflected.
The site's forums weren't on the site at launch, but they're "getting there" and if you want a hint of what the future may hold, consider clicking this link. The forums are still definitely being worked out and with
Community GOTY 2025 voting is up and running! We are going to have to do things slightly differently than in previous years, by opting for a Google Form, but it will get the job done. However, if there is one thing that Marino and others have noticed, please be very careful about your spelling.
For the Community Spotlight, obviously this edition doesn't have the normal amount that it usually does, but the feature's role in keeping the community informed is as important and true as ever. Also, with the formatting and structure, I'm all ears on tips and advice on how to make this gel better. Likewise, what are some things or resources you'd like to see on this feature if it were to persist?
The Bomb 12 now lives on giantbomb.com just below the fold. I will also be updating the "vote now" link every Friday if you are looking for the form.
