10. Hades II
Had a rough start with this game, but after overcoming those challenges, made it a very fun pass time game for me! The characters looked phenomenal, and the gameplay itself becomes easily addicting. I don’t think I’ve read one piece of dialogue from this game because there is just sooooooo much of it. Regardless, I still enjoy the game immensely, and it is one of those games I can easily pick up anytime and know I’m going to have fun.
9. Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater
Bring me more Metal Gear remakes!!! I love any excuse to play through one of them again, and I’m so glad they decided to do Snake Eater. This game looked AMAZING and felt so good to play! I like how they give you the option to play it the original way or the more modern way. The characters looked so good with the updated graphics, and the gameplay itself was so smooth.
8. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
This is my third Hyrule Warriors game, and they absolutely nailed it!! I love how they focused the story on Zelda from when she was transported back in time and how Ganondwarf was a threat even way back then. They had a variety of fun characters that were new to the Zelda universe and some familiar faces. Once I started this game, I couldn’t put it down until I had completed every main and side story battle. This is another mindless fun hack and slash game with spectacular combat and fun side quests to help improve your characters' overall development
7. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Yet another good souls-like game that itches that scratch! I never really focused on the story (because I didn’t understand it) BUT I did love the challenge of the combat and the variety of weapons/cosmetics that make my heart happy. There were so many challenging bosses in the game, and it gave you that sense of accomplishment after defeating that boss on your 90th try.
6. Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Dynasty Warriors finally redeemed themselves from breaking my heart with the Dynasty Warriors 9 disaster! I really enjoyed how they jazzed it up by making the focus on a mysterious protagonist who gets to decide who he pledges his allegiance to. You get to customize your weapon preference and jump to playing different warriors based upon what battle you’re in. They kept everything that made Dynasty Warriors DYNASTY WARRIORS with a little razzle-dazzle. I also really like how the overworld was a map view, and you can traverse on your horse.
5. Once Upon a Katamari
I was ELATED to find out that they were making a BRAND NEW Katamari! They did everything right with this game and made it so ridiculously fun to roll up random items. This just itching a part of my brain I didn’t know needed itching, and I just couldn’t get enough. The music is always next level, and it’s so fun to go back to each level to find every gift and goofy cousin.
4. Assassin's Creed Shadows
I love me another Assassin's Creed in the mix! Especially if it’s based in a feudal Japan era. I thought it was fantastic that you could choose to play as the female shinobi Naoe or the big beefy samurai Yasuke. I like how it tells their individual stories and how their goals align. The combat is super fun, and I like having the choice of storming an outpost with my giant katana or sneaking my way in and killing everyone without getting noticed. The world is beautiful, and made it a fun map to explore every corner of.
3. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Kojima does it again! I get to deliver packages in a creepy post-apocalyptic guitar-surfing world. What more could a girl want?! The story is crazy, and the ending is even crazier. I like that they give you a variety of vehicles and items to help you traverse the world while picking up as many rogue packages/materials as you can. There is something satisfying about building roads and 5-starring every location you come by. This is a fun, mindless exploration game with a great mix of explosive combat.
2. The First Berserker: Khazan
Definitely itches the soulsborne itch, and I love the art style of this game! It feels like you’re playing in a graphic novel anime, and Khazan is just a big beefy badass dude. You get to personalize your combat style based off of three different weapon types and master the one you like best. The story is great, and it gives you a linear path with still a sense of exploration.
1. Ghost of Yōtei
This game was like playing a movie! It is, hands down, one of the most beautiful games. The combat makes you feel like a badass samurai, especially if you play it on the hardest difficulty. The combat is so fluid and gives you a variety of options to personalize your combat style. I loved the story and the exploration aspect of it as well.
