If you only have a stack of UMDs, there's no way to take those bad boys over to a Vita in the US.
If you only have a stack of UMDs, there's no way to take those bad boys over to a Vita in the US.

If you’re one of the people who’ve lucked into an early Vita, it’s now possible to start downloading PSP games onto the device. You can’t just dump any PSP game from PlayStation Network onto a Vita.

On the PlayStation Blog, Sony has outlined a list of 275 games that are already capable of making the PSP-to-Vita transition, with “more” games being added to that list “in the coming weeks.”

Whether Sony is aiming for complete compatibility isn’t known, but I’ve asked for clarity on that.

The list is, uh, pretty big (and doesn't include PSP Minis, which are listed on the blog separately):

Wait, the Metal Gear games are not on this list, but I've seen at least one of the Metal Gear games (Peace Walker I believe), being played on a Vita.

I think this list is games that work 100%. Some games not listen work (VALKYRIA 2 DOES WORK) but I don't think they list non 100% working emulation. I dunno.

Stupid question before I go look it up myself: What about PSOne classics, like Resident Evil 2 and FFVII, VIII, and IX? Are they all compatible, not initially compatible, or not compatible and no plans to be so?

This, along with financial reasons, is why I will wait for buying this system. I can't wait to have one of these, but if I can't play ANY of my downloaded games (Peace Walker? Valkyria? Phantasy Star 2?) or PSONE games, I will wait on this. Not paying 250 bones to NOT play my current games. Would love to see support for the PS2 classics as well, maybe some PSN games too.

Unfortunately PSOne classics will not be playable on the Vita at launch, except via Remote Play. They said PSOne games will be playable eventually though.

Little disappointed, at launch the only games I was really wanting to play was the few PSP games I missed out on by passing up that system. Crisis Core is out because they don't (in their infinite wisdom lol!) have a digital version. Other than that I wanted Castlevanis: Dracula X Chronicles and Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X.

One out of three, is not that hot Sony

No Valkyria Chronicles 2 is an atrocity! I'm torn between getting a PSP for dirtcheap and jumping right on the VITA train - I mean come on. It's less than 3x times more expensive than a old ass stripped down PSP and accessories are just as expensive.

That list is big, but Lumines, Lumines 2,Patapon 1 and 3, Metal Gear Ac!d 1 and 2, and Work Time Fun aren't on there. What is that about? The Vita makes me sad.

Well crap, the Vita can't play Killzone: Liberation. I got that free from the "Welcome Back" program, but still no sign of me having a device to play it on.

Great support for Japanese-ass RPG's though. Persona, Ys, Tactics Ogre? Now we're talking.

Oh man - GTA Chinatown Wars is missing in action too. Albeit I'd love an overhauled version with touchscreen support. So get on that Rockstar.

Nice. All the PSP games I was interested in but held off on getting because I was waiting for Vita instead of getting a PSP are on there.

Not that people outside the US are lucky. They'll still end up paying more than GameStop's used prices for each game. And if you love the psp that much and own so so many games, why not lose the $30 you make trading your psp towards a vita and just keep the gd psp?

Killzone, Def Jam: Fight for New York, Burnout, LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers...

Man, those are some intense oversights. I may not be able to play half of my games...

In case anyone didn't put it together from the comments, this list does not show every game that is on PSN. (UMD Only games like were never going to be compatible)
