Glorified Chat rooms are always gonna attract people and what Sony does with Home from here will be telling. Sims Online ? Second Life ? Home !? We get it but where is the content for us at Home ? As long as they follow up with a bucket load of goodies for the Sony Fans i can see a lot of fun to be had at Home . However if they believe that what they have is going to keep people happy for the next year or so then i'm guessing there are gonna be a lot of delapidated virtual homes and clubs out there . I'll check it out when the line up for free arcade games is Nil
PlayStation Home
Game » consists of 1 releases. Released Dec 11, 2008
PlayStation Home was a social games network where PSN users could play games and socialize. Home saw a refocus in Fall 2011 in North America and Europe that put more emphasis on games than social spaces.
Open House
Creating my middle-aged pervert/grizzled inmate-looking dude was fun. I was going for Danny Trejo but veered off track somewhere. Dancing is awesome. The games are entertaining, when you don't have to stand in line, cause that's just dumb.
Besides that there's a not a whole lot else to do. It basically feels like a glorified, sterile, boring, vacuum-filled chatroom that's ramming ads down your throat while asking for money. Almost insulting one might say. There's one area specifically designed to show you marketing material. You enter it to watch ad posters, then there are these rooms which show commercials. And you get nothing for it. It's just... And then there's another area all about selling you virtual stuff. Ridiculously priced such.
The problem with it being a chatroom is that once you've finished fumbling out a sentence with your controller, everyone will have finished walking away. Unless you have a keyboard hooked up text chatting is utterly futile. I don't even bother any longer, and I get the feeling I'm not the only one.
Overall it feels like I'll be checking it out until I've seen everything there is to see once, and then pretty much never touch it again. It's like "ooh, stacking furniture, ok that was pretty pointless let's move on". And that's basically Home.
A lot of hating on NXE for some reason? Is anyone using it for its avatars? Im only using NXE for installing games on the harddrive :) And I love it
apparently there are peeps going on BJ rampages as well, fucking HILARIOUS... worst service evAR

"I hope it gets better cause it has potential."it certainly can not get any worse than a bunch of dudes giving virtual BJs to each other

Eavesdropping in Home is so unbelievably easy.
Earlier I was in the bowling area and sitting on the chairs were this boy and girl, like flirting, so I just came and sat down next to them and listened to their whole conversation.
I was enjoying myself.

Not enjoying myself in that way. Ah-hahaha... *sigh*
The "chick" did have good digital breasts though.
eavesdropping on arguments and random "people" insulting each other is about as entertaining as it gets in Home. I really wish there was a basic fight mechanic because as everyone knows a mall only really gets interesting when two random dudes are throwing down or girls slap each other around.
You could have Home jobs too. Like Mall Police to chase down misbehaving kids and EMT workers to patch up the injured.
Random fires due to badly built Homes could start and people would have to run around shouting for help. You could then choose whether to call for Home Fire/Rescue or help put out the fire using water from one of the many decorative pools.
There should be ongoing storylines as well in which Home world has to vote for a new president, a big coffee chain wants to take over the little mom and pop store and a serial killer is on the loose at night pretending to be a girl who lures young boys back Home where they are decapitated and their heads thrown in the Saucer Pop pool. People can stand around and say stuff like "He was hoping to lose his cherry, but all he lost wast his head."
Is there a certain attire associated with Jeff's posse of dancing rebels? Like which t-shirt out of the one available do you wear to show your support for their cause?
Hang on, you have to wait in a virtual line in a virtual world to play a shitty watered down version of a game that already exists in a better form? Sounds like virtual reality is even more boring than reality.
Home is so bad right now. There's honestly no reason to be on it. If you want to play music (which wasn't even implemented yet) then do it from the XMB. If you want to see videos (also not implemented yet) use the XMB. If you want to chat, use the chat feature on the XMB. It seems like the only logical way to make Home relevant is to REPLACE the XMB with it. The other MAJOR problem is how unforgiving and cold the whole thing is. If I'm going to sit down in a chair, something that gives me no benefit because my character is perfectly content to stand until kingdom come, I don't want to press X in front of it and then SELECT THE SIT OPTION I just want to sit. Everything in Home is very unintiutive like that, and it's the kind of 'game' where you can walk on certain surfaces (in this case the flat rocks on a pond) but it's unclear where you can and can't walk and it's unforgiving since if you're one pixel off your guy stops in his tracks. They need to fix so many things about Home, and that's including the way it's currently dealing with their servers loading shit because I don't want hard load times before I enter an area and I don't want people to look like ghosts the ENTIRE time I cross the Home Central Plaza to get to the Bowling Alley. So many problems. Sigh.
yes in a crazy turn of events you can wear headphones but can't actually play music from the XMB while you're in Home.
Which makes your avatar the equivalent of one of those crazy homeless bums who just wears everything he finds all the time. Like a wool cap in Summer, bowling shoes and sunglasses in the dark.
Personally I found Home really boring. Sure, if you had enough friends online at the same time it could be OK, but waiting for trailers to very slowly load and having to queue up for a virtual arcade game was lame. All the shop items are way to expensive for what they are. I'm keen to see what they do with Trophy Rooms because I think the whole trophy system is missing something at the moment.
But still, I wonder how interested people will be once the novelty of Running Man wears off and everyone realises the female avatars are all actually guys.
Shame on you, Ryan. Shame on your journalistic integrity.
The music video following the Twilight trailer is for the song "Decode" by the band Paramore. Ryan, you incorrectly cited the band as Evanescence. For shame.
Paramore has two songs available for Rock Band 2; "Crushcrushcrush" as a downloadable track, and "That's What You Get" on the RB2 disc. What would have caused you to confuse them for Evanescence? They don't even sound the same.
I dont think Sony is done yet. There seemed to be big improvements made from the closed to the open beta. I was in the closed beta and was not that happy, but then when the open beta launched, I was more impressed. I think we will see more in the future that will cause Home to be more appealing to users. And best of all is that its free. So you cant be disapointed because its not like its a game at all. Just something to waste a few minutes a day on.
Home is so dissapointing. Could be so much more. Sony should take a lesson from some aspects about what builds communities in MMOs (besides the fighting of course). Items for real life cash? How about cool items for winning trophies. You get the uncharted plat, you get a really cool house item like Sir Francis Drake's relic. That way when people see you, they know you're a gamer, instead of seeing you, and knowing you paid a couple bucks. This is just a small taste of what Home could be, and what it isn't.
I look forward to the day when Home reaches its potential, sadly, at this crucial time for PS3, it doesn't even come close.
I've been participating in the beta for sometime now and I can honestly say that Sony really needs to figure out which way they are going with their black box. I found Home to be boring as all hell! Sorry, but this is my honest opinion! I know others will probably slam my ass for saying that, but oh well, beat the shit out of me in Home! I believe that would be the coolest thing I've seen in Home since I started the beta!
2 years? Did they have 1 part-time employee work on this?
In all honesty, I'm not into games, so to speak, like Sims or Second Life so I guess I wouldn't be the target demographic for Home either.
This is really what Sony has spent so much time and money on? A chat room run by advertisers with no option for user created content?
Instead of building a software scaler so PS3 games can run at 1080i instead of 480p on my old HDTV, instead of investing in building a software emulator for PS2 games, instead of putting great PS1 games on the store, instead of building a party system and cross game communication like the Xbox 360, THIS is what Sony has been working on for yeras?
This is a funny way to watch a company go down the drain. Unwarranted arrogance and the thought that the consumer doesn't know any better. With Hulu, Netflix streaming and the community options on the 360, the Wii, Facebook and everything else people interact with for fun, what reasons does Sony give consumers for picking a PS3 over anything else? Blu-ray is just now getting good old films but the price is still prohibitive and most people can't tell the difference in image quality over a DVD. Sony has really dropped the ball on the PS3 and this year it's been pretty absurd (introducing a MORE EXPENSIVE MODEL WHEN ECONOMIC TIMES ARE SO BAD!?) which is a shame since I really love Sony's first party games. I really enjoyed Echochrome, Wipeout HD, Little Big Planet, Patapon and so many more from them this year. Amazing how they haven't learned from either Nintendo or Microsoft's success.
Lol, I made a female character with blonde hair. All of these dudes came up to me and there like "wanna have sex babe?" If only they knew that I was not woman, I AM A MAN!
Silly perverts.
