Not really, unless you're pulling/pushing hard on your discs or something.  You only need to turn on your console once since it's a swap and, like I said previously, actually removing the Swap Magic disc to insert your backup does absolutely no damage to the hardware as there's no disc reading activity going on during the moments of the swap. "

Just get a mod chip from someone who knows their stuff and not worry about it ever again - I've had a chipped PS2 for years and it's worked fine. It shouldn't be hard to fine one in your area; I found one in WA easily enough, so it should be straightforward in any other state unless you live in a remote region.
