    Overview

Player Weapons was a concept introduced by to the Madden franchise with the 2008 installment. It was designed to help gamers who may not know the abilities of the players at their disposal by heart. The player weapons system gave an on screen indication of who the star players on the field are as well as how they should be used. For example, Brandon Jacobs of the Giants had the Power Back weapon, meaning he would be better than most at running through and over defenders. Bryan Westbrook, however, had the Elusive back weapon, meaning he's more capable of eluding defenders altogether. These weapons are determined by the players rating in particular attributes. Brandon Jacobs had a high "Trucking" rating while Bryan Westbrook had a high "Elusiveness" rating. It's possible for a player to have more than one weapon type but only their strongest one was shown during gameplay. This concept was abandoned two years after its introduction with Madden NFL 10.
