    Overview

Pikiinya! (or Pikinya!) is a block-stacking game first released on the Super Famicom in 1997. The goal of the game is to stack 2x2 blocks of penguins, ice cubes, or penguins in ice cubes within a grid, each of which has a different set of criteria to remove them. The game comes with single-player and two-player modes, as well as a tutorial mode to help players understand the rules of the game.

The game was ported to PlayStation the following year with improved graphics and the new title Pikiinya! EX. Both the SFC and PS1 versions of the game were Japan-exclusive.

    Gameplay

Penguins disappear when joined together in groups of six. They don't need to be in a straight line, just in a contiguous chain. Groups of penguins currently in groups of four or five will appear more animated, similar to Puyo Puyo chains that are also close to completion. However, ice cubes can only be removed if the entire horizontal line is filled with them, similar to Tetris. Once the cubes vanish, any penguins that were inside them fall out. With some skill and planning, the player can use this to create chains of penguin groups after removing ice cube lines, and vice versa.
