    Overview

Paxton Fettel is the antagonist in F.E.A.R., who possesses psychic abilities. Fettel reveals himself to the F.E.A.R. Point Man several times throughout the storyline of F.E.A.R.. These appearances almost always end up being hallucinations (ending with Fettel's body to dissolve into ashes). Towards the very end of the game, an assumed hallucination turns out to be real. The player only realizes this after shooting Fettel in the dream sequence; they are then transported back to the real world, revealing Fettel's dead body with a gunshot wound.

    Background

The second son of Alma Wade and younger brother of  the Point Man. Fettel is the second prototype of Armacham Technology Corporation's Project Origin. Fettel used his inherited psychic abilities to control an army of clone soldiers telepathically. This experiment was going according to plan and was deemed successful, until during a test, Alma was able to connect with Fettel's mind, causing a "synchronicity event." Fettel stopped replying to orders and used his clone army to attack Armacham and free Alma. It's assumed that Fettel did not have control over his actions, and Alma was using him through mind control. Fettel reportedly eats his victims' bodies in order to gain their memories.

Paxton Fettel also appears in F.E.A.R. - Extraction Point, where he is revived, but it is not considered canon.

    F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn

In the F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Expansion pack, Reborn, the spirit of Paxton Fettel influences a Replica Soldier to turn on his fellows and help him. He guides the soldier to the centre of the crater  that was caused by the nuclear blast triggered by the Point Man at the end of the first game. However Alma, who doesn't seem too happy about this, tries to stop the soldier from reaching his goal. After reaching his destination, the Replica Soldier enters a room, where Fettel is kneeling down (similar to the opening of the original F.E.A.R.). He stands up, welcomes the Soldier, then melts away. The Replica Soldier then takes off his mask, revealing the face of Paxton Fettel. It ends with Fettel saying that he has been reborn.

    F.3.A.R.

The final game in the series, F.3.A.R., features co-op play through the singleplayer campaign, with player one as the Point Man and player two as Paxton Fettel; the vague details that have thus far been released include the fact that the characters will have different abilities, specifically mentioning that Fettel will have psychokinetic powers, and that the mode will feature what the developers refer to as "Divergant Co-op". It has recently been revealed through trailers that Fettel's once incredible psychic powers have weakened considerably; where once he was able to remotely control armies of soldiers, now he is reduced to becoming intangible and "possessing" a single soldier at a time. Despite being among the living once more, Fettel still has the bullet hole in his forehead from when he was killed by his brother, the Point Man, a feature which appears on the foreheads of the soldiers he possesses. From time to time in the trailers, the bullet hole is seen to bleed.
