Overview
Our Darker Purpose is a top-down, rougelike action-RPG developed and published by Avidly Wild Games for the PC platform. The player is tasked with making there way through a series of rooms while battling and evading enemies in order to ascend to the top of the orphanage. Gameplay takes inspiration from games like The Binding of Isaac and A Link to the Past.
Story
A young lady Cordy, finds herself in an orphanage, the Edgewood Home for Lost Children. The orphanage has recently fallen into chaos after all the teachers randomly disappear. Cordy must journey to the top of the building, battling feral classmates and dark creatures on her way, in order to find out what administration is really up to.
Development
Avidly Wild Games began a Kickstarter on May 28, 2013 to fund the development of Our Darker Purpose, on the same day the project was also entered into the Steam Greenlight program. The project was successfully funded on Kickstarter and 1,050 backers pledged $42,256 of the $40,000 goal. In November of 2013 the project was Greenlit and moved into Steam Early Access, and finally on January 29, 2014 the project was officially released on Steam.
