EA has been doing digital distribution for a while (late 2005 apparently) and has had Valve as an example to follow the entire time. Though you no longer need to pay an additional fee to be able to download your games after six months, back in 2006 you could post on EA forums without fear of getting access to your games taken away.
Also worth noting that EA claimed they were going to fix the forum ban stuff, a year ago.
EA sucks. That's the difference between Steam and Origin really. The inference that Steam is supposed to be an indication of how Origin will improve in a similar fashion does not strike me as a particularly convincing argument. Their current strategy for catching up to Valve appears to be to not sell EA games on Steam.

I find the fact that banning from any of EA's products including the forum get you banned from everything AWESOME. The internet needs to go in this direction, too many people being assholes out there. I've been called so many racist names during xbox live matches with little I can do and it is really frustrating.
