Try disabling online. I was having lock ups every time the game would lose connection to the server, which is constantly.
I just updated today on Xbox One X... I had a saved game and every time I try to load it the game just quits out to the xbox dashboard. So I tried to make a new game and it does the same thing.
Basically the game is literally unplayable. Awesome.

PS4 slim here, no crashes in 1.50 and in 1.51 but I'm playing with online features off so maybe that's why. (Don't like multi and enjoyed NMS since release when multi wasn't in so I'm glad you can turn it off)
I'm playing on a base PS4, and I've had it crash 4 or 5 times over the course of 10 hours since the NEXT update. I'll try turning off the online stuff to see if that helps.
Played a handful of hours on Xbox One X and no issues so far. I wish it could do 4k at 60 fps, but unfortunately it's kinda one or the other.
Years ago I had a few games on the XB1 that would crash to dashboard when trying to load them. I *believe* I had to boot the system holding some button in to force the XB1 to like rebuild the database or do some maintenance. Or I might be imagining that.
Whatever I did resolved the issue though.

Yeah as I understand it if you turn off your console by holding the power button for about 5 seconds it clears the cache which solves those kinds of problems. (I had a similar issue with MH World and doing that solved it) Although I have heard No Man's Sky has a save game bug with it's latest update so hopefully you dont have that.
Sucks to hear about all these problems, the idea of this game is so cool that I was always rooting for it even though the skeptic in me doubted it could deliver.
One hard crash on pc, but I think alt tabbing a lot was the issue, and like two or three weird things in game. I have 13ish hours on the game since NEXT and no other technical issue besides that. So far, smooth sailing for me; hopefully most of the stuff people are experiencing get sorted through quickly.

Cool, I'll give that a try. I was gonna try re-installing it tonight if that doesn't work.
I haven't had any actual crashes, but on several occasions the game window has just minimized, which is really annoying if you're in combat or a hazardous environment. Thankfully it doesn't take very long to return to the game when that happens.
The worst glitch so far was when I landed on a freighter and was on my way up to the bridge when the entire ship just vanished, leaving me falling through space before dying to the extreme cold.
Right now I'm also stuck on a nightmarish planet where I landed on a floating island, and where the regular daytime temperature is 70 degrees, which my hazard suit can withstand for 6 minutes. On regular intervals, like every 2-3 minutes there are firestorms where the temperature hits 150 degrees and the suit only works for 20 seconds. Also, night time temperatures are -80, which you can only withstand for about a minute. And my launch thruster is out of fuel and there's no uranium or any of the components to make thruster fuel on the island I landed on, and with the regular fire storms I can't walk far from the ship during my expeditions to find any fuel. I guess now I understand why the original launch game had the same resources everywhere.
It's definitely buggy. Prior to the patch today, it was crashing a lot. Or it could be because I was joining random online games and now I just start my own and have only ever seen one person load in. Lets see. Where to start?
I had the "Construct Hyperdrive" mission bug out so I was stuck. Started new game and it worked properly that time.
Well, I put Warp Fuel in my Freighter and then it wouldn't let me warp because it said there was no fuel. Ended up just warping with my starship and then summoning the freighter to get around. Haven't check it again since.
Now I just had one where every time I hit the Pulse Drive thing in space, it would turn my ship and go toward my freighter. Restarting the game seemed to fix that.
Moments ago, I had a Frigate recall from a mission for damage repair. I was on a planet surface. As I leave the planet looking for it, it's apparently down in the clouds.. Umm okay. So I approach it and then it disappears but I can still land on it. I get the dialogue, get out and my character slowly falls from the sky and I land gently on the surface. Summoned my starship back to me and ignored the frigate I guess.
Also, it must have a bad memory leak or memory management because the longer I play it (on PS4 Pro) the worse the framerate gets. I'm crazy so I just keep playing it all day. After restarting it though, man.. It runs NICE. Its like super silky smooth 60fps.. Until I start going places and doing things then it slows down again.
Wish I wasn't running into so many issues because I'm kinda hooked on this with the update. So many things to do and goals for me to work toward. Unlike at launch where it felt sort of pointless to do anything, I would just keep jumping from system to system. With the update and getting this freighter, I spent almost the entire day in that system just loading up on materials and exploring. I really want to know when or how I get storage crates (how did Jeff get this?) and the Refiner. Do I just keep buying building blueprints and more advanced stuff will show up? Or do I follow a quest line?
I've played about 10 hours on the PC so far, I have not experienced any crashes yet.
I have read that there are a lot of crashes on the console versions though.

Still broke after clearing the cache and re-installing the game :(. I was standing next to my Xbox this time when I tried starting up a game and noticed it makes that "hitching" noise people describe. Immediately when I try to start a game it hitches and 2 seconds later knocks me back to the dashboard.
What a shame... haven't seen anyone else having this issue so I'm guessing this won't be fixed anytime soon. Guess this is when a steam refund would come into play; too bad xbox doesn't have that... that I'm aware of.
edit: Well... I was bored downloading another game and decided to give it one more try... and it worked! Makes no sense but at least I can play for the time being.
Me trying to get a consistent frame rate without screen tearing on a quad-core i5 and 1060 is still a fools errand despite trying every possible solution I could find. The game still drops to 30 with v-sync on, no matter if it's in-game v-sync or though a control panel. But, switching the camera to third-person actually makes 30 frames more tolerable so I'll deal with it.
Out of curiosity, I got it on Steam to see how it would do on my PC vs the PS4 Pro w/ SSD. It's a i7 2600k @4.4Ghz + GTX1080 + SSD. Honestly, it didn't seem that much better on PC. It appears the HUD elements don't properly scale to 21:9 resolution so I set the game to 2560x1440. Graphic settings were.. medium to high I'd say? Framerate was smoother at times but a lot of the drops and the hitchy-ness was still there. The transition from planet surface to space definitely seemed more seamless though.
I'm assuming some of these console performance issues will be cleaned up a bit over time, plus I feel like I'm deep enough in on my character that I'm fine with the PS4 version for now.
On PS4 pro playing on a 1080 TV with FOV set to 90 the frame rate is mostly fine with occasional hitching. I had a few crashes during one play session but no others in about 15 hours.
My real issue is with some of the bugs. I don't have a blueprint analyzer and I thought doing the base restoration quest would give me one but that quest seems very screwed up. When my frigates get damaged it reports the wrong number of damaged parts so I can never get the damaged component tag off of them. Random parts of frigates have invisible walls in the middle of pathways and stuff. All my specialists in my base spawned below their seats so I have to look at a very specific spot on the floor to talk to them.
This game is very close to sucking me in but the bugs are getting in the way.
A shame folks are dealing with such widespread problems. I've not put in a ton of time but, playing on both and Xbox One S and an X, I've had relatively few issues. One save sync mishap where I lost about an hour of progress, which is nothing compared to some of the crashes being described here.
I hope things turn around for those who stick with the game and that refund requests are honored for those pursuing them.
Bought it for XB1X and have had no problems like those reported here. It's a bit buggy but has worked fine w/no crashes or save issues after at least 15 hrs. I hear playing from an old save after patch can be problematic. It sucks for people with the problems because I really feel they've made the game much better and more fun. I've not played co-op yet though and I wonder how well that'll work after watching the QL.
Playing on a standar PS4. I accepted a mission while on a freighter.....then proceeded to fall through the ground and into space, losing all my gear I had in my exo suit inventory to a floating grave that I cant collect from a ship. Probably around 1m units worth of stuff, not a whole lot but a real pain in the ass to lose.
Amazed some people aren't having issues lol The game being what it is, this massive, unique, open-ended, sort-of online thing reminds me of the Fallout jank GOTY discussion. I'm less annoyed at the game because of what it's trying to do.
Been playing all day again. A whole new set of bugs to discover. Have a mission pop up and tell me to go to my Base Computer. It had been so long that I forgot what it even was. When I did remember, I followed the marker and it was pointing me to the floor of a doorway in my freighter. Nothing I could do there, and it wasn't acknowledging my actual base computer, so I deleted my original base and made a new one, which seemed to get it back on track. Doing that, I finally unlocked the storage container.. The base archive quest acts on a timer like the other quest? Hadn't seen that before, which probably explains why Jeff had it so much earlier than me. My "Base Archive" quest was probably broken. Seems to be back on track again. Um, if you put the Storage Container on your Freighter, it'll leave giant gaps around it that appear to be an empty void, unless you put it at the end of a hallway. My Freighter still has the 100% fuel but no fuel bug. My Frigate just returned damaged again, landed on it, told it has 4 broken components. I fix three (working my way around the invisible walls and fences around that were mentioned earlier) and now there is no fourth one I can see. Came across a ruin with those orbs. One of the orbs was inside the model of the structure so I couldn't actually reach it. Half the side missions I get have subtext like NPC_MISSION_COLLECT_SUB_1 and I don't know if that is not supposed to be like that or if it's part of the meta story of the game (I never "finished" it), and also it doesn't say anywhere in that mission description what I'm actually supposed to get/find for the person. It does on the HUD if I select the mission though.
Continue to enjoy the game very much. Zero crashes I think since I stopped joining random online games. I'm dying for more storage. Ugh my god it's just Storage Tycoon: The Puzzle Game at this point. So much cool, valuable stuff I'm finding and I can't fit it anywhere. Why can't I be one of these people finding a 20 million dollar plant seed to sell ;_;
I put about 10 hours in and was fine the whole time until the PC patch on the 27th, since then I can’t play for more than about 20 minutes without a crash that locks up my whole PC.
No crashes so far for me on both PC and PS4. Wouldn't really be surprised if there were though. It's hard to add so much to a game without a few things getting wonky.
Im about 5 hours in with a fresh install of NMS (NEXT) on pc, there has been 0 technical problems/crashes. I am playing with multiplayer switched off. Game is running smooth. I guess i am lucky? Folks who have updated NMS to the NEXT patch and have problems, maybe re-installing the game might help?
PC performance still leaves much to be desired. Up to 10 minute load times when starting a new game on high-end CPU. Changing any visual settings requires a game restart. V-sync not operating correctly or at all in fullscreen. Tessellation setting buried in the .ini file.
Sloppy stuff but hopefully it can be patched soon. Thankfully I have seen 0 crashes and a mostly stable frame rate.
You know what I love? Every alien interaction, distress signal, puzzle, ruin, and dogfight being the exact same experience.
Also, they didn't make shooting/space combat good so it still sucks :( I think when I heard they were "massively updating the game" I expected massive updates to the game.
Nearing 12 hours on PC, and the only issue I’ve had is within my first hour in the game I had a maybe 15 second lockup that resolved itself. Otherwise it’s been pretty much fine, unless my ship just kind of sinking halfway into the ground practically every time I land anywhere is an issue. It’s never stopped me from getting out, or taking off or anything, though. This is my first time playing and a fresh install, for what it’s worth.
My actual issue with the game is I don’t think I like it much.
So I'm starting to repair my mining frigate that always comes back damaged, but every time I land on the frigate and exit my ship I end up underneath the landing pad. I then have to make this sketchy rocket jump to get back to the landing pad or else I'll fall to space (btw it's a pain in the ass collecting your corpse/equipment in the middle of space). Anyone else experiencing this? FYI my ship class is Hauler if that helps.
Other than that it runs poorly (around 20 fps) on grassy planets on my aging i7 2600K/GTX 780 even on low settings.
Played this again a bit yesterday after seeing the big patch. Finally, my frigate was actually fixable. Landed, location for damaged part showed up properly, fixed, and viola. The hyperdrive in the Freighter continues to be broken though. Shows its full, galaxy map says its empty, I made another warp cell and it let me stick it in, and still nothing.
Also, note sure if it's because I haven't played in a few days or because I've been playing PS1 stuff, but the game seemed to run a fair bit better on the Pro in 1080p with this big patch?
