Do you like hockey?  Well awesome, because this years iteration of EA's storied hockey franchise is better then many than other versions of years past.  From a technical hockey standpoint, there are few games that can stack up in terms of content, authenticity and fun.  With many additions and tweaks to the game it is definitely worth checking out.  Some highlights of the new game include:Be a Pro Mode - Essentially, this game mode builds upon the standard create-a-player mode and puts you in th...

The best hockey game I have ever played. 0

I have been playing hockey games since Ice Hockey for the NES, so clearly I am the most qualified man on the planet to review NHL 09. It really is the greatest hockey game ever. Up until NHL 07 introduced the skill stick, hockey games were pretty much all about checking all the time until you could get the puck for long enough to score a cheese one timer goal.  For the 07 game EA switched up the formula, reducing checking effectiveness way down and putting more emphasis on stick handling & s...

A Great Game That Builds Upon the Success of Previous Iterations 0

When NHL 07 hit stores for the Xbox 360, the title really stood out due to its revolutionary "skill stick" control scheme. Essentially, your hockey stick is controlled by the right analog stick. Move it right, your player will deke right, move it left, he'll deke left. Flick it up for a shot, and back then up for a slapshot. While it truly felt awesome to be able to weave my way in and out of defenders, then fake out the goalie, it was pretty bare bones. The skill stick left out some important m...

Writer’s note : This is anything but a professionally-written review. If a job hunter asks for samples of my writing for any kind of job, may they not stumble across this. NHL 09 : The latest installment of a franchise that does not like me.SD-DEFICIENTStory : With the Leafs falling out of playoff contention, Mats Sundin was the focus of numerous trade rumours as the February 26 trade deadline approached. On February 25, he stated that he would not waive the no trade clause in his contract. He s...

Nhl 09 is 100% in the game 0

Nhl 09 has allot to live up 2 with the high bar set up by nhl 08. 09 meets and breaks and a throws the bar into the sun. Nhl sticks with the old and true saying if not broke why fix it. So at first glance while graphically it may appear the same has 08 there are  many improvments which warrent a new purchase. Just like 07 and 08 nhl 09 brings back the skill stick with all it bells and whistles added in 08 and like its older brother adds its own twist to the skillsticks. New in 09 is the defensiv...
