     I was once, on fire.
     I was once, on fire.
Back in my Genesis glory days, NBA Jam was a staple of my visits to my father and step-mother's condo.  Every other weekend, as well as on Tuesday and Thursday nights, I had the opportunity to input my initials, JCJ, and take hold of the three-man roster that was the Chicago Bulls.  I dominated everyone, and by everyone I mean every team the Genesis could throw at me.  Sometimes I would even put my perfect record on the line against my older brothers, they could never hang with it.

One Thursday night after dinner, Chinese food from China Wok (aw hell yes!), I turned on NBA Jam to get a game or two in.  I put in my intials JCJ and was greeted with the record of 103 - 1.  This was insanity, what could have possibly happened?  I won every game, I always made sure of it.  My record, last I checked was 102 - 0, and I won the last game I played.  It is at this point, while I'm gaping at the screen in despair that my step-mother walks by and says "oh I tried that game of yours, the basketball one, it's pretty difficult!"  BANG, FLASH, BOOM, light bulb goes off.  My step-mother has the same exact initials as me, and not knowing any better was honest with the game and put her initials in at the beginning.

As the light bulb dimmed upon my realisation and run through of the events I looked from the TV displaying my no longer perfect record, to my step-mother, and finally to the Sega Genesis power switch, which I promptly switched off after my 13 year old mouth exasperated "well, fuck this."
