http://www.gamespot.com/news/6286915.html?tag=latestheadlines%3Btitle%3B1  Now we have more of an excuse to accuse Activision of terrorism....It is somewhat odd that a terrorist attack on a Russian airport  occurred one year after the game was released. Still, leave it on the media to find a tragedy to exploit.

While I always think it's sad when things like this happen (both because people died, and because Infinity Ward clearly would never want something like this to happen in real life), it was inevitable that the first event like this in Russia would be tied into that level.

I wish the media was right when they claim that terrorists use just video games to train.  Because that would mean they'd probably be a hell of a lot easier to take down.

And yeah, I knew this would happen when I heard about this.  So ridiculous.  I'm sure there's been plenty of movies where bad shit goes down in a Russian airport, but since MW2 is a video game, it's at fault.  Obviously no entertainment medium is at fault.  It's just a very unfortunate coincidence.

I read that article earlier. One thing I thought was funny was that they assume that terrorist, who spend all day growsing around thinking of ways to hurt people, need help planning their ideas.

But this is at an airport. I'm not blaming the game on what happened, it's an obvious scapegoat that has absolutely no relation to the event other than the fact that it took place at an airport.

It wouldn't matter if this happened in a year or 10 years...MW2 would still be blamed. Unless another later game did a No Russian clone.

Because no one ever thought of killing people in an airport until Modern Warfare 2 came out. Also, in MW2 a group of guys gun people down. This jackass strapped a bomb to himself. The only relation is that it involved Russians and was in an airport. If we are going to make broad strokes like that, then I am going to blame Die Hard 2 for this tragedy.

I blame the people who did what they did not a fucking video game. For fucks sake what the hell is wrong with people these days. So they attacked an airport because they played too much MW2? Really? really!?!?!?! You might as well blame every other violent movie or video game.

I fail to see how something in a game has any impact on a terrorist attack. It's not like terrorists are sitting on their asses all day and only do things because of videogames.

Why is everything being blamed on video games lately? Can't wait till they find some way to pin games as the cause for global warming and the endangerment of whales.

Airports/Airplanes have been terrorist targets for decades - Airports are packed places, with many international passengers, and the modern Travel system is seen as an integral part to the modern world that these Terrorists hate so much. Attacking an airport is symbolic for the terrorists, and it makes sense because they intend to inflict as many casualties as possible.

MW2 is not to blame for terrorist actions. Terrorists are to blame for terrorist actions. And why would they draw inspiration from MW2? In MW2, the airport attack led to a huge war. The Chechen separatists don't want another huge war with Russia (they lost the last one), they want Russia to leave.

Yep.  Figures that GameSpot would cover this "news" story, although I'm sure kotaku will be right behind them.

Also, when four men with machine guns and bulletproof vests casually walk though an airport and kill everyone in sight, THEN the media can say "Hey!  It's just like that game!"

I guess I should correct myself. Its the Russian state sponsored site, and when I think of Russian state sponsored news I think "integrity". I think of 24 hour coverage of Putin singing Blueberry Moon and no mention of 5 mysterious suicides by non-state sponsored journalists. Surely what they say speaks for all news outlets.

First off....I don't remember being a suicide bomber in MW2.....nice way to connect two things that have no connection world, nice going...

Edit: Oh and I love how they keep saying AMERICAN game, AMERICAN company wtf is that about? This is why I don't watch the news anymore everyone just whines that everyone else is wrong. OMG a simple youtube search of No Russian will show you these horrible things that have been shown much more graphically in other media Oh WOE is ME!

The media is pointless, and they are developing into a culture of trolls. They get a view point set and do nothing but ride that opinion until everyone just gets annoyed and starts ignoring the stations. I quit watching TV for the most part because I got so tired of it over the past 10 years. And it's not like you can just not watch certain programs, because they slip opinions I don't care to hear about anymore into every single program.

Not exactly sure how Russia Today is mainstream media, it's a little particular of them to even have this "report" since they also went on pointing to Chechnya before even airing this crap. No consistency in their crap.

To think the Russians would avoid shitting on Chechnya, more shocking.
