How could we see that coming? 0

Shadow of Mordor was one of the biggest surprises in video game history. An action hack 'n slash game with the Lord of the Rings lincese, telling a side story, getting huge amounts of praise from the industry? What!?Everybody expect this type of game to be full of gimmicks and have a bad story to tell. Sure, Shadow of Mordor has that, a story that doesn't grab you and some fan services that makes no sense and don't add anything for the game. But even so, the game is amazing, the combat is so resp...

    Mordor out-creeds Assassin's Creed and out-bats Batman 6

This game features a ton of stuff to do and lots of bad guys to kill in various fluid and gruesome ways. Imagine an Assassin's Creed game with collectibles that are actually fun to find a pick up, coupled with Batman style combat. Plus, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor lets you stab dudes in the face and neck area like "uh, uh, uh, uh, uh" and it's oddly satisfying....

One DOES simply walk into Mordor and more when you have fun ghostly wraith powers! 0

I reckon ol' Betsy's still got a couple years in her before I retire her for a new GPUAs the shadow of mordor, it has been 35 hours of joy haunting the uruks in lots of creative ways. Time in the real world seems to pass at an alarming rate though as you are sucked into this immersive piece of landscape based on Tolkien lore, and what a beautiful piece of landscape it is. This game's a looker for sure, and it should be if it's going to do a lot of close up zooming on to Uruk faces. I should also...

Its Greatest Strength is its Greatest Downfall 0

*Note: This was originally written around its initial release. This a revised version. At an initial look, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor looks like a straight-up AAA crossover between the Arkham and Assassin's Creed games. This is absolutely true; it replicates the free-flow combat established in Batman: Arkham Asylum and reiterates the interface and traversal mechanics found within the Assassin's Creed franchise. Add this with the open-world flora elements in recent Far Cry entries and the "las...

Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Review 0

Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor is a third-person open-world action game set in the world of J.R.R Tolkien's books 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. The story takes place in between these two books, and you play as Talion, a ranger killed, along with his wife and child, by the Black Hand of Sauron(I don't know the lore of these books, so if you don't understand what is going on, then that's ok.) But you soon find an elf ghost named Celebrimbor, who states that the Black Hand has p...

    Shadow of Mordor Review 0

The thing that sets Shadow of Mordor apart is that while it tells a competent traditional story on its own, the most interesting and engrossing story is created by the gameplay. The nemesis system scratches that weird, very specific itch that 20 years of MLB The Show RTTS and Madden Franchise mode scratch for me. I'll craft my own story in my head, but the game gives me the tools to have it play out in front of me....

Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Review 0

In the light of the previous Tolkein generated games like the Lord of the Rings games of previous years, expectations for the latest Middle Earth title were inevitably high. On the other hand, being released in a year filled with delays, broken games and constant patches for bugs, expectations were lowered. I am pretty happy to say, however, that Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor is an amazing game, and gave me more fun than any game has in a long while.Starting with presentation, this game is gorg...

    Shadow Of Mordor Review 0

Stick with me here, I’m going to make a weird analogy to open this review. Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor is like The Sims. The reason I really enjoy Shadow Of Mordor is not because it’s great fun free-running around the open world, and not because it’s awesome to sneak into an base full of Orcs and hack them to bits, but because it let me choose my own path through the story. The game gives you a series of skills and an end goal, then just sets you free to your own devices. I...

If you like stabbing Orcs, than I have a game for you. 0

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a great combat game, it does some game aspects really well, however, it does other game elements poorly. After all the hype the game got, I was really looking forward to it, and while I did enjoy it (and I am recommending it), I often found myself disappointed with the game at the same time. On the positive side, the game's graphics are great, and if you can run it, they can become even better (HD content patch). Normally graphics don't influence my opinions on...

    Shadow of Mordor Review 0

In years to come, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is probably a game most people will remember for its single distinguishing mechanic. In some ways it’s a shame, because while Mordor does invent a refreshing spin on the open-world genre, it also does a lot of the small things right to create an overall polished and enjoyable experience. Mordor is an open-world game developed by Monolith Productions, a long-time -- but rarely noteworthy -- developer from the Pacific NW. This time Monolith h...

    Shadow of Stun Spamming 0

Throughout my 20-odd hours of playing Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, there was one word that kept popping up in my mind; Ease.I had ease with getting to grips with the combat and accompanying“Nemesis” system. I had ease with understanding (and somewhat dismissing) the narrative. I had ease with winning almost every fight I was thrust into throughout the game, and I feel that's what my criticisms (positive and negative) are focussing on. Talion provides players with a gateway to over...

Shadow of Mordor - Gameplay Mechanics as the Hero 0

I'm a Tolkien fan.I've read all of the books at least once, (some multiple times), and I'm not one of the elitists that hated the films. Was I excited that a video game blended some Tolkien lore with typical Assassin's Creed and Batman Arkham series gameplay? You bet your ass.Talion and the Wraith.Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has the player taking charge of Talion, a Ranger of Gondor, who is brutally murdered with his son and wife by a group of Sauron's elite guard. Upon death, Talion is posse...

Great from Start to ... not the finish alas 0

I am a huge fan of all things Tolkien and LOTR. That being said, I found that this game relates to the source lore on a very minimum level, despite featuring the ring, sauron, gollum, a song about Durin yada yada yada, the general "feel" of the game and world does not - at least to me - any notable resemblance to the books / movies / whatnot. Then again, I still think it is enjoyable for it's own atmosphere and coherence. The world building, in terms of visuals, immersion ( the nemesis system, ...

Innovative. A good companion piece to the Jackson films. 0

"Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor" blends the open-world adventure of "Assassin's Creed" with the melee combat of "Batman: Arkham Asylum". It also features the skill progression and battle tactics from "Far Cry 3". In another words, it's a derivative action game. But it's also innovative thanks to the brilliant Nemesis System which adds a fresh aspect to the now standard "sandbox" actioner. This new feature (which changes the power structure of the enemy hierarchy) will most likely influence a num...

Shadow of Mordor: some fresh meat on some very stale bread 0

Shadow of Mordor is an interesting game to dissect. While it borrows many mechanics from other games--Arkham games fighting system, Assassin Creeds traversal-- it offers one of the most innovative mechanics seen in quite some time, in the Nemesis System. All of this is wrapped up in a terribly un-engaging, cliche of a video game story. You play as the ranger Tallion, within the first 5 minutes of the game the catalyst of the story happens, and this is expected to fuel you with motivation for the...

An excellent open world game 0

Shadow of Mordor provides an excellent playground for the chaos that you cause. With amazing gameplay, great character models, that really showcase the creepy nature of your enemies, as well as a world that provides everything, from beautiful vistas to terrifying enemy bases, this game feels like a true experience. Furthermore, an excellent Nemesis system makes your enemies feel more real, and the actions that you do that much more impactful in the world of Middle - Earth. My only gripe would...

It's the first of its kind, complete with all the advantages and drawbacks that brings. 0

It probably comes as no surprise that Shadow of Mordor's strongest point is its ambitious Nemesis system - and boy, is it a strong one. However, a lack of focus and other engaging options results in no one part feeling completely fulfilling.Shadow of Mordor begins with a tragedy befalling protagonist Tallion; him and his family are captured and murdered by the Black Hand of Sauron in a blood sacrifice. Tallion, however, is revived in a state neither living nor dead, tied to the spirit of a myst...

Does Arkham better than Arkham, and Assassin's Creed better than Assassin's Creed. 0

Have you ever had an open world game where you were more interested in fooling around in side missions instead of progressing the story? Have you ever legitimately hated the npcs you come to fight, and not just because the story tells you to?This is the game for you. You actually feel powerful and it's very fun to fight against characters that you are unevenly matched against. You make your own rivals, and they're unique to you and you alone. My greatest rival was a skinny orc named Horza the Ca...

Shadow of Mordor Critical Analysis 0

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is an interesting beast indeed. When broken down into its simplest ideas, the game really is nothing more than a collection of tried and true mechanics from various other franchises. You’re bound to see numerous familiar elements if you’ve played Arkham, Assassin’s Creed, Infamous, Far Cry, or really any other open world game in the past few years. That said, these mechanics often manage to feel as though they were implemented better here than eve...

"It must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came" 0

I've noticed a recent trend on every forum I've been to and the people whose opinions I trust: a knee-jerk reaction to mainstream gaming companies, AAA titles, sequels/reboots, et al in gaming and the Lord of the Rings series. Of course this is hardly a new attitude but the sheer increase is hard to ignore, it's so quick that things are written off the second they are announced. Of course the Hobbit films and Game of Thrones's super-popularity definitely have something to do with the later, pers...

    Solid Orc slaughter 0

Having read the great reviews, I was glad to not be let down by this game. The story I could take or leave, but the game play is great, controls tight, and the difficulty curve is smooth. Slaughter Orcs, have a good time!I would recommend not doing too many side missions early on - there is plenty of story, so don't try and push through the whole nemesis system before progressing....

Glad I came back to it. 0

I don't usually preorder games and I think I was one of the few people that preordered this game, why does that matter? I was really excited for this game when it came out in 2014 and now 3 years later I am just getting around to finishing it.The main issue I had that made me put the game down was mostly my fault, if you treat this game like a beat em up you get quickly overwhelmed and the whole game turns into a real brutal slog, I fell into this trap and took a "f" that game break. The sequel b...
